Summary

Huw Richards set himself a challenge - to grow his own fruit and veg for free for a year. He succeeded, and now wants to help you do the same.

  • Can't afford a raised bed? Try repurposing an old wooden pallet.
  • Don't want to spend money on buying plants? Look in the fridge and your kitchen cupboards for food that you can plant.
  • Need a particular tool? Barter or borrow from a neighbour.
  • Don't have a garden? See if someone in your area has an untended patch you can turn into a well-loved veg plot.

Narrated by Huw, his Grow Food for Free has the inspiration and practical advice you need to start, grow, love, propagate and harvest your own fruit and veg organically and at zero-cost. This is real sustainability!

With 15 years' experience growing organic, sustainable food in his family's garden, Huw Richards has seen that cost is often a barrier to people growing their own food, so he wants to help everyone grow fruit and veg sustainably and inexpensively. Huw's YouTube channel has over 168,000 subscribers and his videos have over 25 million views in total.

I really liked Huws YouTube videos and have watched them for years
Really enjoying this audiobook and the approach to growing which isn’t about spending spending spending. The approach to gardening is brilliant

Well done Huw!

Love this book

First, I have to admit that I really like Huw Richards. His youtube videos are a real pleasure to watch, so I was unsurprised to find that his book is just as easy to follow. It's read beautifully and what I have listened to so far has been really useful. Highly recommended

fascinating

I'm very glad this was made into an audiobook. I dont get time to read my gardening books much and so few are available in this format. Its a brilliant, honest, can-do book and although Huw isn't a natural narrator, he is very earnest and brings his own work to life well and at a good pace.

Very little of use

Unless you need to be told that you should pick your fruit before it goes black and mouldy or how to go about asking your neighbours for food scrappings for your compost bin, you won’t find anything much of use in this audiobook, I am sorry to say.
