Summary

After a prank lands him in serious trouble, Malcolm Hernandez, a 16-year-old boy, is shipped off to live with his grandparents while his mother attempts to save him from expulsion and criminal charges. Malcolm believes the stay will be easy - a vacation with milk and cookies and tales from the past. His hopes, however, are shattered when he bumps heads with his grandfather, Ronald O'Donnell - a stern, violent man with a sinister past.

Ronald plans on disciplining his grandson in order to "save" him from himself. He is not afraid of abusing him, either. He will physically, emotionally, and mentally break him.

Jon Athan, the author of The Abuse of Ashley Collins, invites you to stay at grandfather's house to witness true human horror.

Warning: This book contains scenes of graphic violence, including violence towards children. This book is about abuse - emotional, physical, and mental. This book does not contain any explicit sex scenes, but it does discuss sexual abuse. This book is not intended for those easily offended or appalled.

Good Read

The story is great for fans of extreme horror but I simply cannot get over the voice performance - it's appalling.

Unbelievable Violence and Perversion

This is a short and sick listen. If you are willing to suspend your disbelief to get beyond the few illogical plot flaws (a kid becoming so hungry he eats rotten chicken after being in solitary confinement for only a few hours) there is a lot to enjoy with this story. It is entertainingly written. The opening scene in the classroom is brilliant and the protagonist and his grandfather are well drawn characters.

The only thing I would change about the actual writing of the book is that characters are far too often "awed" by things. But that's a small issue really (especially considering the graphic content of the book).

It is violent to the extreme and sexual in a way that is so far removed from erotica it is utterly repulsive. I'm going to leave two words here that may or may not have any relation to the "erotic" element of this sory: grandma's bottom.

There we are. Read at your peral.

Horrible and Shocking

If you like stories that leave you disgusted and feeling a little dirty, look no further. Torture techniques are used to 'fix' a trouble child and it is so much that I couldn't read it in one sitting. I was constantly thinking about the characters and it feels real to listen to it. The story feels well developed and the characters aren't simple in their motives, there is a lot to unpack, and I'm still trying to figure out what I want to say but this was something I did enjoy listening to. It is definitely an experience!

Violent and disgusting! Highly recommended

This story doesn’t re-invent the wheel, but it’s another example of what makes Jon Athan a reliable purveyor of the extreme.

Grandfather’s House is not his best (arguably that title belongs to Into The Wolves Den), but it’s a solid story with plenty to satisfy fans of splatterpunk.

Not for the faint hearted - A brilliant read

When I started this book I hadnt realised it was by the same author as 'Lovesick' which I have only recently finished. I soon became aware of the link as this authors style is easily recognisable. He is fast becoming one of my favourite authors and I'm eager to sought more of his works . Growing up I loved reading books by richard laymon one of only a few other authors that would break the shock barriers. Of recent times I have found novels to be too predictable and safe, this book definitely doesn't fit within this category. It is certainly not for the fainthearted and contains some stomach churning moments that kept me gripped all the more . I was given this book by the author/narrator in return for an honest and unbiased review

So gross I laughed out loud so many times.

This is a book you dont want your therapist to see, It explores the boundaries of what you will or should read, I was expecting Grandpa to have his victims, but he focussed Everything towards his OWN grandson,
`graphical and horrifying I just wanted more, and feel Jon Athan could have extended this torture another 400 pages. as it became my guilty pleasure wondering what could happen next.

not for the easily offended, young families or Politicians, but for the intrigued its a ball. jim
