Summary

A battle raging inside of her mind....

At only 18, Helga Ate has lived a full life. After losing her parents and joining the Alliance Navy, Helga has proven to be special - special enough to be chosen for the prestigious Nighthawks.

But sometimes being chosen is too much for anyone....

Helga, having experienced war, is determined to bury her survivor's guilt and the memory of her first mission. With the pressure mounting, Helga will stop at nothing to keep it all together. But rest and recovery are not within her reach after a satellite is attacked and human lives are lost. A high octane space military Audio / Book.

I haven’t listened to very many audio books in fact it only two so far. So listening not reading is still very different and new to me. At 9 hours 29 minutes long I couldn’t get into the story very easily. Also listening rather that reading the book is something I’m finding difficult to get to grips with and I feel as if I’m missing out on some of the storyline if that makes sense? Also sadly with this being book 2 makes it tougher for me to give a true review as I’ve missed out on the start of the series and people and what is what and has been.
Saying that the narrator Cari Scholtens does a excellent job at first i thought here we go but as the story progresses her tone, voice and storytelling is clear, precise and listenable and as the story went on the better and more enjoyable it became.
The story continues on from the first book and mission which had apparently gone really bad. A satellite is attacked with items stolen by a traitor called Wolf and his mercenaries and they must be stopped before he sells the weapons. The captain and heroine is Helga Ate an 18 year old who’s well experienced with war and death as losing her parents in the first book. The story now continues with going out to capture and stop Wolf and lead the nighthawks into a fight and survival. Helga is special that is why the prestigious Nighthawks chose her but is that enough to survive? With the help of the Alliance Helga and the team enter death and destruction and will she survive and rescue those in need along the way?
Quite a complex storyline, which I found difficult at times to understand so had to stop the narration and think on it or replay to get to grips to understand. Overall a well thought out story, but not really for me.

We're all crazy together, ma'am.

There were only two of them left from the original eight - Helga, the new comer, and Silas, the !eader. Two newbies were conscripted into the Nighthawks on the eve of a new mission, one a very experienced veteran, the other brash, an unknown quantity despite having come through BLAST. The coincidences kept piling up, brutal action everywhere, it seemed. This second in the Lady Hellgate series is full on fighting, conspiracy and, for the protagonists, desperate times lacking any chance to sleep. It stands well as a read alone, however. The characters are intimately portrayed, real people trying to survive mentally and emotionally in fact in desperate times.

Narration is by Cari Scholtens and very good. Her voice is warm and pleasant, filled with understanding of both what she reads and the feelings of the title character, Helga Ate, previously rejected and now hailed as an heroine. Each individual protagonist is given their own, appropriate voice, the timing is excellent and the text well Intoned, involving the reader totally. A good performance.

My thanks to the rights holder of Full Metal Heroine, who at my request freely gifted me with a complimentary copy. For lovers of military space opera, this is a well written and unusual mustread, character dominant as well reaction packed. I am looking forward to book three and can warmly recommend it.

End to end excitement

This entire series has been an adventure. The heroine has to overcome not only prejudice from others but a feeling of being inadequate. She manages to outperform others and achieve victory when failure looks all but imminent.

Love this series.
