About this listen

Rose loves Dimitri. Dimitri might love Tasha. And Mason would die to be with Rose....

It’s winter break at St. Vladimir’s, but Rose is feeling anything but festive. A massive Strigoi attack has put the school on high alert, and now the Academy’s crawling with Guardians - including Rose’s hard-hitting mother, Janine Hathaway. And if hand-to-hand combat with her mom wasn’t bad enough, Rose’s tutor Dimitri has his eye on someone else, her friend Mason’s got a huge crush on her, and Rose keeps getting stuck in Lissa’s head while she’s making out with her boyfriend, Christian! The Strigoi are closing in, and the Academy’s not taking any risks... This year, St. Vlad’s annual holiday ski trip is mandatory.

But the glittering winter landscape and the posh Idaho resort only create the illusion of safety. When three friends run away in an offensive move against the deadly Strigoi, Rose must join forces with Christian to rescue them. But heroism rarely comes without a price....

why are good narrators so hard to come by

I love this series so muuuch. The narrator drove me slightly crazy with all the random changes of voices for one same character, but I have to admit she's so much better than the narrator for book 1. Also I'm pretty sure Mia is pronounced Meeah not Maya? that was irritating me to a point I nearly quit listening lol

Enjoyable, but slightly disappointed

If you were a fan of the Russian accent from the first book, be prepared to be disappointed. This narrator doesn't do accents, in fact I found it hard at times to automatically know which characters were speaking due lack of tonal range. I found it disappointing that all the make characters sound like girls and she made Rose sound more like a spoiled brat alot.
But I really do like the story.

Good overall

find the rose annoying at times. At times she is childish, but it's in character so can't complain. she is also slowly growing. liked the story as a hole. The end took a brave turn i just hope they hadle the consequences vell in the next one

The narrator keeps changing.

I don’t like it the changing narrator cause it messes with my perception of Rose. At least this girl pronounced moroi and dhampir correctly.

The voices are... something

Honestly not keen on the voices used, it’s an improvement on the last narrator but the baby voices are annoying. Also the pronunciation of Glasgow was so bizarre I almost missed where she meant. This was followed by a bad southern English accent. Not sure why this happened since Glaswegians have a distinctive accent even within Scotland, but whatever. I hope that Rose’s mum doesn’t have this every time she appears because it really grated.

Anyway this aside, the books are good. The bloodlines spin of series which I read after is better 5* but enjoyed this as well.

Great story

I always forget how bratty Rose is in this series but luckily having read them as a teen I have nostalgia to get me through the cringier bits now I’m older xD these are my favourite series! I do hate how long the music plays for at the beginning and the end though.

Narration is ok. Nothing great and a little annoying at times but you get used to it.
