About this listen
In trying to create life, the young student Victor Frankenstein unleashes forces beyond his control, setting into motion a long and tragic chain of events that brings Victor to the very brink of madness. How he tries to destroy his creation, as it destroys everything Victor loves, is a powerful story of love, friendship, scientific hubris and horror.
Jamie Bell (Billy Elliot, Film Stars Don’t Die in Liverpool) delivers a haunting performance of Mary Shelley's timeless gothic novel.

frankenstein by Mary Shelley
The story is just great, always wanted to listen/read it. i've seen the play of the original story, you don't have to.
The narrator,Jamie Bell,is easy to listen to and tells the story very well
it's sad tale and it brings up many emotions- loss, grief, lonlieness, how it is to be different and not accepted by people.
i would recommend it,don' listen tho if you're feeling low in mood

Great story, irritating narration
This is one of my favourite books, and I was looking forward to listen to an audio version. However, the narrator was very disappointing. There were no difference between the voices of the characters, so it was at times confusing.
While it is a sad story, full of feelings of anguish, I think the whining voice of someone about to cry got way too much. It really grated on my ears at times.
The only reason I managed to get through it, is that the book is wonderful.

A neatly retold classic
An excellently narrated classic gothic novel. A joy to listen to from start to finish.

Brilliant reading
This actor brilliantly conveys the articulate and intelligent narrator of the young Frankenstein, and also the vulnerability. Brilliant casting and a brilliant performance. Particularly impressive how he also captures the other two narrators (the sea captain and the creature).

A classic tale but ….
This is a title I have meant to read for a long time. The narrator was very good but I found the tale far too depressing. The main body of the story was Frankenstein moaning. I was glad in the end when the credits came up. Here’s a story about someone who turns their back on responsibility and is surprised when revenge is sought out upon him. I felt great pity for the monster who sought kindness from mankind but only received fear and hatred.

Speechless
So many comparisons to modern life. My heart aches for Mary Shelley to have understood such realities at the tender age of 18.

Masterpiece
This book is mildly terrifying without being gory. The pain and struggles described by Shelley are touching. The book lacks detail, allowing other creators to use their imagination in motion picture. I guess this is the reason why Frankenstein’s monster is present in many other works these days.
