Summary

Throughout history, many people have rejected God because they wanted to act immorally - why does it seem like those walking away from God today believe God is the immoral one?

There are so many competing visions of morality. One's culture, background, political affiliation, and religious beliefs (or lack thereof) have profound impacts on our moral thought. What one person says is right another says is wrong, and vice versa, leading to much debate and confusion.

The God of the Bible steps into this environment with robust clarity about what is truly right and wrong, good and evil. The issue is, we don't always understand why he says this or that, and we don't always like it if it competes with our pre-existing moral thought. And if at one point in time His design for human flourishing was at least respected - increasingly so it is derided as backwards, regressive, or even harmful.

For Our Good Always argues that our thinking about morality is profoundly reductionistic, lacking necessary categories that different cultures and times might help us see more clearly. And it offers a truly important consideration: What if God's boundaries and rules for us are actually - deeply and unmistakably - for our good?

Through the lens of the Ten Commandments, it explores that question and more, such as:

  • Who gets to decide between right and wrong?
  • Do we each get our own truth?
  • Why does God give us rules and boundaries?
  • What is going on with some of the things I don't understand in the Bible?
  • Why are some of my Christian friends walking away from the faith?

This book is written to be listened to in conjunction with a teaching series at Midtown Fellowship, a family of churches in the Columbia, SC metro area. Find more resources at ForOurGoodAlways.com.
