Summary

Trenton Colman is exceptionally creative, with a knack for all things mechanical. But his talents are viewed with suspicion in Cove, a steam-powered city built inside a mountain. In Cove, creativity is a crime, and invention is a curse word.

Kallista Babbage is a repair technician and daughter of the notorious Leo Babbage, who died in an explosion - an event the leaders of Cove point to as an example of the danger of creativity.

Working together, Trenton and Kallista learn that Leo Babbage was developing a secret project before he perished. Following clues he left behind, they begin to assemble a strange machine that is unlike anything they've ever seen before. They soon discover that what they are building may threaten every truth their city is founded on - and quite possibly their very lives.

Great childrens book

This was a book for the whole family. The kids found it really engaging and interesting and could not wait to finish the book. The book had a great plot and the characters were believable and relatable. The only downside is that the narration was very slow. I would suggest listening to the book at a fadter speed to keep the attention of the kids.

Slow Burn

The story is very slow, I understand it has a lot of ground to cover, but I felt like giving up plenty of times. The final couple of chapters were good, but that does not make up for the rest of the book. I am still new to audio books as a result, I do not have much to compare the narrator to, but he did little to grip me.

Annoying, stupid wet blanket of a main character

I don't think I've ever wanted a main character to just die. he is incredibly annoying, incredibly stupid and constantly whinging and whining. The overall story is okay and I like the whole premise. It was good enough to keep me listening to the end despite the main character.
