Summary

At its core, this is a simple tale of a young boy finding his voice while growing up in a country that was finding its feet.

Finding My Voice is an engaging autobiographical account of the intriguing journey a Zambian-born young man ventured on to become one of the most celebrated voice-over artists in Africa. Chilu Lemba’s compelling coming-of-age story offers listeners an insider’s view of not only his hardships and victories but also Zambia’s during the ’80s and ’90s.

His narrative voice is as distinctive as his verbal voice - authentic, expressive, funny, and thought-provoking. It is the personal and honest reflection of a life lived as a mischievous child, an actor, a music writer and performer, a radio presenter, a radio station manager, and finally, a voice.

Success is born of Struggle!

An informative, powerful and engaging autobiography that thoroughly describes the trials and tribulations that formed the man the narrator (Chilu) is today. I am taken aback at how quickly Chilu had to grow and how he managed to turn a hobby into a career despite so many roadblocks! The book also describes the educational and opportunity landscape in Southern Africa (Zambia, South Africa and Zimbabwe).

The Narrator takes you through a range of relatable strong emotions both positive and negative unknowingly demonstrating how he cut through the noise to focus on his dreams. There is a lot of humour in his story which makes light to some of his struggles.

I strongly recommend this book!!!

Refreshingly different

Short, sweet and great autobiography describing a life I can surely learn from.

I love the tone of the book; the author expertly navigates the line between truthful and professional. The author is also brutal in his self assessments - its no wonder he keeps getting better.

As a fan of his music, I thoroughly enjoyed the glimpses of the method behind the magic as well as the context and background of the songs (I am referring to the song Zambia Motto).

I really enjoyed listening to Chilu tell his story. This audiobook gives the listener an amazing insight into his life, through his own voice and emotions. It’s very clear and concise. I also love how the book ends!
