Summary
Funny, heart-wrenching, generous, and true, in Finding My Voice, Nadiya Hussain, shares the unforgettable memories and experiences that have made her the woman she is today.
I am writing this for everyone who was told no. 'No, you are not rich enough. No, that is not credible. No, you can't. No, you won't. No, you are not allowed. No, that is not appropriate.'
I was told, 'No, you do not belong.'
Finally, I am saying, 'Yes, I do.'
From the moment Nadiya Hussain was born, she has been questioning her role in life. But the irony is, she never wanted to be a trailblazer. She just wanted to follow a 'normal' path. But life kept telling her 'you can't'.
And so she found her own way, beyond anything she dared to dream....
In this wise, witty, open-hearted book, Nadiya, lets us into her life and, for the first time, shares the memories and experiences that have shaped her into the woman and role-model that she is today, alongside her personal recipes and the stories they tell.
Critic reviews
"A revelatory honest read.... She writes with clear-eyed insight.... There's no doubt that the book will make an impact and enable young girls to question the boxes society places them in and to dream bigger than the previous generation thought possible." (YOU Magazine)

Finally!
So great to finally hear this common but under acknowledged story shared by so many. Captivating story telling is yet another string to this lady's bow.

Oh my goodness!
I laughed, I cried and absolutely sobbed at parts! If this book doesn’t make you feel so empowered and honoured to be a woman, I don’t know what will! This book was such a pleasure to listen to. What a wonderful human being!

Riveting
Nadia has a very interesting story, I like her even more than I did before the book. She does talk very fast though....had to slow the speech rate down in settings.

Beautifully written, heartwarming, and a realistic view into Nadiya’s life.
Listening to the audio narration by Nadiya was like having a friend sit with me on the sofa and have a grand chat over a cup of tea. Watching her on GBBO, I had always felt she was lovely and personable and listening to her tell her own story has just cemented that in my mind. Her chapters are each focused on a different facet of her life/ hat that she wears and by the end of the book you really feel like you know who she is and that if you ever were lucky enough to meet her, she’d instantly be your friend. The chapter titled “Ma” made me sob as a mother myself and the one called “Cook” made my heart burst with pride and a feeling of kinship as someone who also feeds others out of necessity but also love. What an absolute pleasure to listen to and I will certainly read it again and again in the future.

Amazing story, narrated in a way I could create images and felt I was there. It was real!
Thank you for the cultural enlightenment.
I still don’t understand though why the women in the UK were not allowed to attend Uni. In the UK… hmmmm.
