Fidel is the leader we need
My only disappointment is that this book is too brief. The extracts from Fidel’s speeches is a must listen for all.

Disappointing
Chapter 1 shows the authors perceived scale for judging Castro’s legacy. On one hand; Fidel is a hero who improved conditions for women and minorities, increased literacy, helped fight against apartheid… on the other hand; he nationalised businesses, cut into PROFIT MARGINS, AND SOCIALIZED HEALTHCARE! (Those poor capitalist exploiters!)
In chapter 20 the author describes how Castro respects/supports women. Then “On the other hand” proceeds to describe Fidel’s Cuba as an “exploitative, torturous environment that represses women worse than any third world regime”. The author then only gives evidence to support the empowerment of women in Cuba under Castro.
It’s as if any positive achievements of the revolution has to be countered by the author with American capitalist propaganda (that he never proves) just to give the reader a balanced view.
Overall it’s an okay listen if the listener is able to decipher the propaganda from the truth. It initially gave the illusion of being impartial but later into the book it’s becomes clear the author has no clue what socialism is.
The author should stick to writing about ballroom dancing and stay out of politics.
It’s no wonder this book was free on Audible.
Close Guantanamo.
