Summary

Can two men fake an engagement for the greater good?

Avery Kinkaid has been bowing to his father's will far too long. But when his dad supports anti-LGBTQ legislation, he's had enough. Sen. Kinkaid says things would be different if Avery had a fiancé in the wings. Well, fine: He'll just have to get one.

Rory Fisher is an activist with a heart of gold and nerves of steel. He's not afraid to call Avery on his BS, and that's why Avery knows Rory is the perfect fake fiancé to help him take a stand. If he still feels a little too much for his ex, well, he can shove that down and suck it up to beat his dad at his own game.

Until Rory encourages his most hidden desires. Until he makes Avery feel stronger, braver, and freer than he's ever been.

Loving Rory is easy, but Avery's father won't just sit back and let them have their happily ever after. They will have to fight: for their love, for justice, for a future together.

This is one power struggle they can't afford to lose.

I love fake dates

I loved the story and another book I haven’t read but I thoroughly enjoyed listening to it. I love it when characters have to fake something and this premise is too cute. I liked the growth of the Avery and Rory. I liked politics in books and this didn’t disappoint. I liked Wyatt Baker’s voice and pace. I really enjoyed the story and recommend this audio.

Second Chance For Happiness

Avery had come out to his father ten years ago and had been kept in the closet ever since, every time he raised the issue of coming out publicly his father had excuses, Avery has had enough of it now, he's not happy hiding his true self.
Rory was dissatisfied with his life, hooking up wasn't satisfying him anymore and he'd realised he had a type, and his type all reminded him of his high school hook up.
Fate plays a helping hand and they both end up at the same charity gala.
They haven't seen each other since high school, but they're in a position to help each other out now..can they put the hurt of the past behind them?
I loved their story and the narration was great. #highschoolsweethearts #lovefindsaway #bettertohavelovedandlost

Faking a Groom

Wow!! This is a great book !!! Wyatt Baker did a great job with the narrative, I love listening this audio, I like How he brings Avery and Rory to life! This is about Avery and Rory, the one who got away, this is a fake fiancé, second chance at love, poor Avery he comes out a long time ago to his father who is a Senator and always finds a way to manipulate Avery into staying in the closet, Avery wants to enjoy being out, find a boyfriend and wear pretty thinks, but he knows that his father will be mad and he doesn’t want to lose him because it’s just him and his father, Rory and Avery meet again in a event, Rory is the Director of an organization that helps people who needs legal aid call Equal Justices League, he loves his job and is proud to be part of this organization.
Avery discovered his father supports an anti-LGBT legislation and asked him to not to vote in favor because it will affects LGBT people to adopt, but his father tells him that the only way to withdraw his vote is if Avery has a fiancé, so Here is where Avery ask Rory to be is fake fiancé. But they need to come to an agreement that works for both of them, Rory needs money to help more people and Avery wants to be able to be out and no more hiding .
So they agreed to fake their engagement, Avery goes to live with Rory and at first Rory wants to resist Avery but one weekend on Bliss Island and Rory see the real Avery a shy guy who wants to be free to express the person who he really wants to be. Rory and Avery journey is really hard with lots of disappointments and regrets, but I love that Rory is there to encourages Avery in being who he wants to be and nothing is wrong. There’s great moments with Rory’s family that helps Avery and Rory encouragement helps him to become a the man he always wants to be and accept himself. This series is quickly becoming my favorite, I love that they got their HEA and so happy that we catch up with some others characters of previous books!

Heartbreaking and uplifting

I love a fake boyfriend story and this had all the components of that trope in spades. But this was much more.  It was about Avery's journey of self discovery and acceptance, not just publicly coming out of the closet and standing up to his bullying father, but in acknowledging and embracing his femme side.
It was a journey that was both heartbreaking and uplifting.

So good!

I love a good second chance romance and I gotta say I’m enjoying the fake husband/fiancé/boyfriend trope as well! The author did an amazing job with this story! I loved Rory and Avery so much! Especially avery! I just wanted to wrap him up in love and acceptance and keep him safe! The narration was also very good! The narrator was really good at the different voices and emotions throughout. I am for sure going to seek out more by both the narrator and the author!

Baker helps Jamison's best work (so far) shine

I loved reading this book when the print edition was released so I was pleasantly surprised when Baker’s narration brought the characters even more to life for me. I’d initially deemed this Jamison’s best work yet, but found myself enjoying it even more in audio.

I love broken characters and Avery definitely fits the bill. So much damage was done to him by the person who should have loved and supported him the most. However, it was beautiful to watch Rory’s patient love start to heal Avery.

This story is an amazing exploration of what it means to be true to yourself, and how that journey is sometimes easier for some people than for others . . . but always worth the trip.

An inspiring love story!

I simply loved the performance of Mr Baker on this book! He captured perfectly the essence of the amazing characters written by DJ Jamison, what helped to ensure a voice acting closer to my expectations. As always, a fake engagement, but with true feelings involved, it couldn't stay "fake". The story of Rory and Avery is the best example that again the road to happiness is accepting oneself not matter external pressure to find love and a forever. They made a wonderful couple and their story even with all the angst and intrigue is a lesson in how we cannot give people power over our happiness. A sweet and inspiring love story.

Really enjoyed

I really enjoyed this fake fiancée turn second chance romance between Avery and Rory. There are some heartbreaking scenes with how Avery feels being in the closet and how is father treats him. After they spend time together their old chemistry comes back to life but they have some hurdles to overcome.
The narrator Wyatt brought the story to life.

great story, great narration

I loved this book. Avery in particular is such an intensely complex character. Having spent a lifetime hiding at his politician father's request he is finally done hiding in the shadows. I have such a sweet spot for Avery, trying to break free of the toxic thoughts that his father has been force feeding him since he was a teen proves very difficult. I love how determined he is to be true to himself, not just in his sexuality but in how he expresses it. Rory and Avery were childhood sweethearts but split when Avery was unwilling to come out. When Avery's dad throws his considerable weight behind a bill that would hurt the LGBT+ community the pair decide to fake an engagement to try and derail his plans. As they reconnect Rory realises that he may have been too quick to judge Avery and becomes his biggest supporter.
I love the fact that Avery's layers are peeled back bit by bit, we get a real sense of the psychological conditioning that he has been subjected to and watching him slowly overcome the image of what he should be as opposed to who he is. Rory is the best sort of cheerleader, not too pushy but allowing Avery to become more true to himself.

A wonderfully narrated, stunningly emotional story

I'm stunned by how deep and emotional this fake fiances romance was! I was expecting a goofy, lighthearted tale of two men faking a relationship until it turned into something real, but what I experienced was so much more than that. Avery and Rory transformed themselves in this story, living up to their fullest potential and fighting back against injustice in a meaningful way.

Between the two of them, Avery's growth surprised me the most. The Avery I met at the beginning of this book was defeated, manipulated by his father and conditioned to believe he had to hide away his "unnatural" desires. His fake engagement proposal to Rory felt more like a desperate man grasping at straws than any meaningful action to stand up for himself. As the story progressed, it was so uplifting to see Avery take back the reins of his own life and start to lose his fear of being perceived as weak. Seeing him be truly vulnerable and open with Rory was touching, and every time Rory's friends and family provided a safe space for Avery to be his true self I wanted to jump up and down with joy. By the end of the book, Avery was almost unrecognizable. His pride and self-confidence kept him standing tall even under the most intense pressure, and it was thrilling to see such a change.

While Avery's journey of self-discovery resonanted with me down to my core, his deep, passionate love for Rory was stirring for an entirely different reason. The two of them had insane chemistry right from the start, and seeing how they couldn't keep their hands off each other was heady. Their first few nights of rediscovering each others' bodies were explosive, packed with raw desire and pent-up need and enough emotion to take my breath away. The way Rory was so patient with Avery when he couldn't express what he wanted made me melt, and I ached right alongside Rory when Avery put on his macho man mask instead of opening up completely. Avery's inner struggle was intense when it came to his physical desires, and it was fascinating to see how being soft and open in bed with Rory translated to Avery's overall confidence in himself.

All in all, I thought this was a fantastic romance with an equally exciting storyline. Wyatt Baker's narration was on-point the entire time, and I loved the expressive voices he chose for Avery and Rory. I felt awful for Avery every time his dad let him down, but seeing how Avery's trust in Rory never wavered made me smile. The two of them presented a strong, united front in the face of their challenges and neither man sat back and waited to be rescued from anything. The way Rory and Avery fought for each other, more than anything, showed me how real and lasting their love is.
