Summary

Meet Frank Hardy, Faith Healer.

This is one story with three storytellers, each with their own perspective on their shared history.

Each tale brings new revelations through a spellbinding narrative that enters the realm of a deep, shamanic ritual, guiding the listener through the hearts and minds of faith healer Frank, his wife Grace and his manager Teddy.

Faith Healer is recognised as a masterpiece of modern theatre. Written by Brian Friel, one of Ireland’s most celebrated playwrights, Faith Healer is a dramatic enactment about the fictions of memory, a meditation on the role and responsibility of the artist in society and an exploration of the meanings of healing and salvation.

This all-star production is created especially for Audible by internationally acclaimed theatre director Ian Rickson, former artistic director of the Royal Court, starring a cast of theatrical titans: Ciaran Hinds (The Terror, The Crucible), Michelle Fairley (Game of Thrones, Julius Caesar) and Toby Jones (Detectorists, Uncle Vanya). Sound design by Ian Dickinson for Autograph Sound.

Superb production of a haunting play

A magnificent performance of a haunting and beautiful play. Teddy’s Cockney accent isn’t perhaps strong enough! But the production is entirely faithful to the text and unlocks its strange power. Brilliant!

A spooky tale

This is quite a spooky, somewhat sinister tale. If you don't like hearing various people read out the names of small Scottish places in a gaelic tone, then this won't be for you. I'm not sure I fully followed the story but I feel I enjoyed listening to it never the less.

Interesting

A very well interwoven piece of writing.
Excellent performance by all three. Literally seeing each character in the writing and performance.

A fascinating story told in monologues

Great performances by Ciaran Hinds, Toby Jones and Michelle Fairley. It's a rivoting story, each character revealing the half-truths and misrememberings of the last. I found Michelle Fairley's accent to be inconsistent, meandering from south Dublin to north of Ireland and that put me off a little. But her overall performance was excellent like the other two's. A great production of a great play by a great author.

Had no idea what to expect

Super simple character-driven story of the same events from three angles. Understated production didn't get in the way, a thoughtful and nuanced listen.

Amazing

What a random thing to come across, and for this book/dramatization to instantly grab me with its plot and characters. All three actors really give it their all, and it is a joy to listen to. It was pure chance I came across this one, as the description gives little away. Yet, I was constantly paying attention, so as to find out more and more about the story. Not once was I bored, which is impressive, considering three people are retelling somewhat overlapping events. All in all, a very impressive production and performance.
