Summary

With the advent of the modern age, the tales contained within this volume have been told, retold, sanitized, and rehashed. They have been modernized, cartooned, given the live-action makeover, and told in more ways than can be counted. So, here, I present some of my favored versions of those tales, featuring the heavyweight stars such as Cinderella, Snow White, Belle, Tom Thumb, and Thumbelina - along with some of their less often name-checked contemporaries too.

This audiobook has versions of fairy tales by the famed Jacob & Wilhelm Grimm, who gathered the oral traditions and set the juggernaut that is the modern fairy tale in motion, or so some argue. Along with some interesting Hans Christian Andersen stories - and some from the American tradition by the likes of Baum - we have here the children’s poetry of Stevenson, Lear, and Howitt, among others, plus a few gems cherry-picked to delight and entertain.

This anthology contains traditional versions of popular fairy tales, and as such, it may not be advisable for the very, very young.

Brilliant Set Of Traditional Tales

My daughter has enjoyed this recording time and time again as part of her bedtime routine. It is a great set of traditi9nal stories, and despite how many times I have heard it I am still not tired of hearing Mr Johston's voice. He has an authoritative tone but kindly, he is almost part of the family at this stage. Really good. Highly recommended
