Summary

A grumpy baker, a quirky ad man, and a recipe for forever....

Scott

So this cute guy sits next to me on the plane and proceeds to talk my ear off for hours. Not good. I don’t like talking and I don’t like strangers. But Theo’s sweet, smart, and sexy—the perfect distraction from business woes and personal worries.

Okay, things got overly friendly, but we’re adults and we know the score. I’m too old, he’s too nice, and we live on different continents.

Then, out of the blue, he shows up at my bakery with that pretty smile and a list of wacky marketing ideas—like how to make fairy cakes a thing.

I don’t like fairy cakes.

But I do like Theo, so…maybe?

Theo

The new me takes risks. The new me is brave and confident. The new me flirts with hunky, imposing bears on planes while traveling to a foreign country.

It’s going well, thank you.

However, my plans to do some sightseeing, drink tea, and eat my weight in biscuits every day get derailed when I realize there might be a way to help Scott and prove a few things to myself.

Don’t worry. I won’t fall for the grumpy baker. No way. He’s complicated and broody and....

Uh oh…it might be too late. Help!

Fairy Cakes in Winter is a bisexual, age-gap, grumpy/sunshine MM romance featuring a sexy baker, a sunny tourist, and a few dozen fairy cakes.

Highly recommendable!

5 Stars!

This was the perfect story to read after a few angsty/darker books. Theo was so adorable and while Scott seemed very grumpy, he was putty where Theo was concerned. From adding the fairy cakes to the bakery's menu to being unable to keep his hands off Theo, Scott finds himself doing a lot of things he hasn't done in a long time.

I loved Theo and Scott, they were really good together. They had amazing chemistry and were super hot together.

This was another fantastic narration by Michael Dean, who did a great job with not only Theo and Scott but all the secondary characters we met in the story.

Low-angst, sweet, steamy, and romantic, this was definitely a hit for me! Highly recommendable!

Cute novella

Grumpy/sunshine is one of my favourite tropes, add in a holiday romance and Lane Hayes, and I was sold.
It's clear that the author spent time in the area and fell in love with it. Reading the novella makes me want to visit.
I loved the couple together. Them falling in love felt natural and the epilogue was so good!
I listened and read to this. The narration was well done, though I did listen at 1.4x

Just a beautiful story with perfect narration.

Fairy Cakes in Winter was a treasure to listen to, I didn't stop smiling from the start to the end.

Their journey began on a flight to England what a memorable flight that was!

Scott, ( A baker ) grumpy as he seems, has another side, a side that began to take chances, he needed to change and change he did his professional and personal life.

Theo, ( Ad guy ) younger than Scott, how overcame his insecurities was awesome, both men were challenged when they knew what they could lose they stepped up to confront the problem.
Bath -- Oh yes! I know Bath so I could visualise the town with its Roman Baths, beautiful buildings and tea shops and bakeries.
Such a feel-good book that had everything that I wanted.

The narration by Michael Dean is perfect.
He brought the book to life where I found that l needed to bake --- yes! Fairy Cakes.

Setting brought to life and wonderful characters

I started this book not long after seeing a YouTube video where the creator had been to Bath and we got to tour it with them so this book immediately intrigued me as I could visualize the setting which is wonderfully described here. Then we have two of my favorite tropes, grumpy/sunshine and an age gap. Finally, there are the characters of Scott and Theo and I fell in love with them immediately. Theo was just like I would be given a chance to head over to England and check out the countryside and enjoy tea and biscuits but I found his enthusiasm for his job equally entertaining. I love stories that take me into the jobs of characters and when Theo turns up at Scott's bakery with all the ideas for marketing it I was fascinated. Michael Dean captured Theo's enthusiasm for both the city and all his creative ideas for marketing while also catching Scott's scepticism and how intrigued he was by Theo.
