About this listen

The Wayland family - Lara and Marcus and their three children - leave England to spend a long, hot summer in Trout Island, Upstate New York. Lara, still reeling from an abortion that Marcus insisted on, hopes the summer away from home will give her time to learn to love her husband again.

A chance meeting at a party reacquaints the family with Marcus's old actor friend, Stephen, with whom Lara once had an affair. Lara feels herself drawn towards Stephen, and they pick up their secret relationship where they left off. Lara knows she's playing a dangerous game; what she doesn't know is that it's also a deadly one.

The four-year-old sounds just right

What did you like most about Every Vow You Break?

I had to force myself not to listen from start to finish in one long go.

Any additional comments?

I read the reviews from others before I puchased this book. Most of them mentioned the four-year-old child, whose language was too forward in their oppinion. I disagree. I have a granddaughter who turned four this spring, and compared to her this little boy sounded just right, maybe even a little immature for his age.

Loved from afar

A family move to a NY island for a 6 week run of their dad's play. The 16 yr old twins soon make friends, but their mum is bored staying at home with their four year old brother. She starts noticing anomolies in the house, as if somebody is leaving obvious signs to let her know the family is not alone.

Great Read

Marcus Wayland and his family take up an offer to spend the summer on Trout Island where Marcus (an actor) is cast for the local dramatic society's next play.

They are given a house just out of town, which comes with a bad reputation. Strange things start to happen to the members of the family.

In the meantime Stephen a successful actor and a friend of Marcus and his wife Lara.

Lara and Stephen had a fling years ago and seem to want to start it up again. But is he all he appears to be?

A rattling good yarn…

Absolutely love Julia Crouch! So reliably fast paced and with so many twists n turns… the perfect accompaniment (on Audible) to my long long signing and editioning days at the studio. This one in particular had an amazing reader ( mind you I say that about most of them).., I’m a bit of an addict now and am going to get straight on with her next. The bear scene is spine chilling and truthfully told, having had a similar experience myself. If in doubt, give this one a listen without further ado… but not too close to bedtime - it’s like a shot of espresso!

Disappointed!

Having read/listened to this author's excellent 5 star 'Her Husband's Lover', I was looking forward to settling down with this book. Sadly, I have reached chapter 16, about 5-hours in, and just as another reviewer, I simply don't care what happens. I don't feel engaged with any of the characters and the story has shown no substance at this point. I will be returning this one.

Yawn!

5 hours into this and I just can't take anymore. The pacing is so slow and the characters are unlikeable. I just don't care about any of them at this point. I really hate not getting through an audiobook but I don't even get excited to listen to this one. Nothing remarkable has happened yet and the characters are bland. Maybe I should just skip to the end.

The narrator is okay although the American accents are a bit annoying.
