Summary

The ultimate Rome story

‘Iggulden is in a class of his own when it comes to epic, historical fiction’ Daily Mirror

'I wish I’d written it' Bernard Cornwell

'If you liked Gladiator, you'll love Emperor' The Times

From the spectacle of gladiatorial combat to the intrigue of the Senate, from the foreign wars that secure the power of the empire to the betrayals that threaten to tear it apart, this is the remarkable story of the man who would become the greatest Roman of them all: Julius Caesar.

In the city of Rome, a titanic power struggle is about to shake the Republic to its core. Citizen will fight citizen in a bloody conflict – and Julius Caesar, cutting his teeth in battle, will be in the thick of the action.

The first instalment in the bestselling Emperor series.

Critic reviews

‘The descriptions of combat in the circus, slaves in revolt, skirmishes in Greece, amputations and street fighting are all convincing.’

Review of the abridged version

I have had this series physically on my shelves for years and since having kids not touched them. I really enjoyed this book, however i slightly regret not going for the full version, i would have liked to hear much more in certain parts of the book. I do however think i preferred this narrator to the full version narrator. So i might stick with the abridged anyway. I will be looking up other conn igguldon books though no doubt.
