About this listen
Brian Herbert and Kevin J. Anderson return to the vivid universe of Frank Herbert’s Dune, bringing a vast array of rich and complex characters into conflict to shape the destiny of worlds....
As Shaddam sits at last on the Golden Lion Throne, Baron Vladimir Harkonnen plots against the new emperor and House Atreides - and against the mysterious Sisterhood of the Bene Gesserit. For Leto Atreides, grown complacent and comfortable as ruler of his House, it is a time of momentous choice: between friendship and duty, safety and destiny. But for the survival of House Atreides, there is just one choice - strive for greatness or be crushed.

One of my favourite in the series
I thought the storyline development in the second book of this prequel series has been excellent. The political aspects of the story taking focus on the great houses providing such good insight into the deeper aspects of Dune.

Repetitively bleak to fhe point of predictability
Enjoyed House Atreides, thought it was a promising start to the prequels. I understand this is House Harkonnen, but the level of tragedy, brutality, and death becomes predictable and made it a slog through 'and how will this positive situation be ruined?' towards the end of the book.

History of important characters comes to life
Having read and listened to the Frank Herbert Dune saga this was an excellent prequel, catching the spirit, pace and atmosphere of the earlier works. A joy to listen to and I admit I'm a fab of Scott Brick from the original series and Helter Skelter.

ValleyBoy
A truly wonderful second prequel to Dune which leaves the listener completely informed of the intrigues, plots and politics leading up to the novel itself.
Magnificently narrated by Scott Brick...

Audible equivalent of a page turner
Brilliant, couldn’t stop listening. The characters are intriguing and I cared about them as if they were real.
Excellent… on to the next.

Keeps you listening
I powered through this in a week without any great effort to do, wherever the audible version of a page turner is. The myriad subplots are what really keep it moving, never bogged down in any one scene or character too long.

Not just what, but why
Excellent narration (as expected). Having read the originals in my youth, the prequels are just as engaging, and helps explain the motivations of the characters and factions from the originals.
