Summary
A broken body. A mysterious world. It'll take all his intelligence to survive.
After close brush with death, Garrett realizes that he’s in a new world. And worse, he’s missing an arm and paralyzed from the waist down. A fact that doesn’t deter the brutal gang lord whose floor he’s crashing on from wanting to throw him out into the street.
The only thing standing between Garrett and a cold death at the mercy of the city’s scavengers are his own wits and a plucky young woman.
Armed with a system that gives him experience for exploring his new world, Garrett is determined to do whatever it takes to keep himself safe from the threats closing in all around him. Even if it means becoming a villain.
But the inn and city are far from what they seem.
Terrifying creatures lurk around every corner and there is no weapon that can stop them. A strange lucid dream world hovers on the edge of Garrett's consciousness, and it isn’t content to stay a dream. When it starts bleeding into the real world, Garrett realizes that the hostile gangs around him are the least of his worries …
Don't miss book one of a new fantasy LitRPG series by Seth Ring, bestselling author of Nova Terra and Battle Mage Farmer. Join Garrett as he uses his intelligence and talents to make himself useful in a harsh reality, proving it takes more than just muscles to be strong.

Fun story
I liked the story and the concept and will definitely listen to the next one. I increased playback speed to 1.25x after a couple of chapters, and after that, it sounded much better and felt more like the right speed for the pace of the book.

Odd start and not what you expect
Okay let me get my biggest grip out of the way Michael Kraemer was a bad choice to narrate this. If like me and I suspect a lot of listeners, you have picked up Seth's Battle Mage Farmer series he narrates that as well, so mixing the two series just throws you off. Unfortunately, Kraemer does little to mix it up with the changing of character' tones, inflections, etc.
Onwards, the story at the start struggles to make sen, e and this is after a second time through. once you hit the, 2 maybe 3 hour mark and bits start to come through to make it clear, r and Garret starts to show some more character development it picks up.
The last 1/4 is where it sinks its nails in and then starts to pull you ,in though.
Does it make me want to get book 2? I'm just curious enough to want to know where this is heading.

A pleasant surprise
This was really good and something different as its focus is on plots, plans and intrigue. With enough action to stop things getting dull.
I liked that the main character was a good mix of pragmatic, ruthless and somewho who can do good.
The narrator did a good job usually I am not a fan of him but his pace and tone were perfect in this book.
I liked how the main character was a disabled person but there was more to the character than that with the main issue being his wheelchair not being robust enough.
I look forward to the next book.

Promising
The story started good and seems to have high potential however It felt repetitive in the way the main character gains XP. The Mc has this power to visit the world around him from a 3rd perspective as a ghost or something similar, he is in the real world when using that power and at the same time he isn't.. (this is very hard to stomach) and has to kill or survive monsters in his dreams or dreams of others to gain XP.
The rest of the book is pretty good if you don't count the part with dream fights. I like the intrigue in the new world he finds himself in, and the characters are believable. I wish I had more of this and less of that.
