Summary

He was born anew in a world where martial arts were indistinguishable from magic. He only received a neuronet and meaningless desires from his past life.

What lies ahead?

He dreamed of adventure and freedom, but those dreams were taken away from him. The same way his mother, father, and sister had been taken away. They took the kingdom, they took his own destiny. But he is willing to wage a war, against the whole world if need be, to bring everything back.

Even if the army opposes him, his sword won't waver. Even if the emperor sends the legions, his step won't falter. Even if demons and gods, heroes and enemies alike are to unite against him, he won't bend to their will. His own will is iron itself, unstoppable.

His name is Hadjar, and he heeds the call of the dragon heart within him.

Great story so far, confusing at times though

I loved the story and the military aspect is refreshing but the beginning was a bit slow and some main details get glanced upon, the mc's cultivation journey feels all over the place and power stages aren't ever clear in comparison to wuxia/xianxia standards.

I like the RPG aspect but it's not used too much and levels aren't reliable to gauge how strong the mc actually is but that gets explained, still confusing though. I hope it gets cleared up soon.

I'm definitely going to purchase the next one to see where it goes.

Amazing,

This book sent me to a far off land with beautiful scenery and one hell of a protagonist, I can't wait till I can grab book 2 to carry on the story and follow his progress to revenge

Good for its genre

Story is pretty good, but the narration breaks the immersion a bit.
Not sure whether the narrator swapped microphone or if they re-recorded a large portion of the book, but it makes his voice sound completely different in some chapters, and sometimes even changes between sentences. It's pretty jarring.

Story needs a trigger warning but has good bones

I enjoyed the book I think it’s the first one to try put into perspective what war with super soldiers will look like. The scales of the battles and distances traveled are just ridiculous. (But good)
I didn’t appreciate how graphic the sexual assault was in this book and if you are going to be that explicit with it put a trigger warning in your description since you have so much time.
I love the world building in this book so much to explore

The narrator is really bad

The narrator Kevin T Collins takes gulps in the middle of the damn narration very annoying. Also spoils the great story

I love the scale of story

I've read the first 2 books and with the third dropping today I thought it might be time to write review of the first two.
The first book i really enjoyed and how much I like the world building and understanding the new characters. Hadjar is the MC of this story. He has a good start in the first few hours and then his whole new life goes to s**t so quick that it even made me feel angry for him. With the next few years of his life becoming a daily toucher for him. He is then reborn a new in the same world just somewhere else with is anger and hatred to the people that betrayed and torched him on his mind he takes out to training and rising the ranks in the army. With making his name known within the army as an officer. Without explaining the whole thing the final battle of the book is immense in its scale. The field battle that takes place involves millions of solders and beasts, with many champions fighting. Since this world has cultivation you get 1 solider taking on platoons of solider and epic duels that kill hundreds how people in the back blast of these duels.

For me these battles are the high light of the book but all that happens all the build up and little things are just great. The books' length is due in part to it explaining and going into to a lot of detail about the world, army's and complexities of things. This for me is great i love understanding why things are the way they are with the second book going into far more detail about the other kingdoms and surrounding area. It has some great moments. The scale and what is at stake in the book 2 just keeps going up and I love it.
Main themes
. Cultivation, fighting, fighting in war, strategising for war, fighting ever more powerful enemies. With this all happing for the sake of revenge and the flexing moments are great to.
Going to dive into the third book now, so if you have read this far then please give this book a try. Also Voice actor killed it in this one well done to Kevin T. Collins.

Enchanting story, but forced voice

Okay so I'm writing this a few hours in, but I can tell you already the story is enchanting and engaging, it really makes for a great listen. But that's the only issue listening, the voice actor compared to others I've listened to seems to really force his voices and in times or raised voice sounds like a teenager trying not to annoy their mother at home by shouting as well you can occasionally hear him wet his lips or swallow, all of the emotions are there and he does have a an overall great, however he really needs to work on the odd forced tone or 'breathy' shouts.

Decent for the genre

Nothing ground breaking but nothing offensive. Well, maybe the narrator. Do yourself a favour and play at 1.20 speed
