About this listen

David Tennant and Liz Carling star in the sitcom about a young couple, Daniel and Lucy, and their circle of friends.

In the first series, Lucy sets up Daniel's party, but their mates seem too busy with kids. Then, when a top author gets writer's block, Lucy and Daniel get landed with an unwelcome guest. In the third episode, Daniel and Lucy's plans for a quiet weekend are hit by a stream of unplanned visitors and are later hit by other people's baby blues. Is poker really the answer? Lucy's up for promotion, but Katie can't decide on naming her baby. And in the last episode, when they're asked to be godparents, Lucy's thrilled. The same can't be said for Dan, however.

In the second series Lucy drags Dan to the gym after yet another night on the tiles and Dan's best mate Andy is surprised to meet Lucy's old school chum.

Dan and Lucy's getaway plans are thwarted by other people's problems, Steve and Linda host a dinner party, and with news of another baby for their best friends, Dan takes action over Lucy's reaction.

In the third series, Katy's a mum at last, Daniel's got a new job, but Lucy's jealous. Daniel and Lucy rethink their priorities on a golfing break with their awful friends. And change is all around, but Lucy doesn't realise that Daniel can't keep secrets.

Pregnant Lucy must also break the news to her parents, Daniel gets a taste of fatherhood, and have Daniel and Lucy finally had enough of dealing with other people's problems?

Great sitcom laced with drama!

Enjoyable series featuring a pre-Doctor Who David Tennant. You'll be pleasantly surprised with it!

Brilliant

Loved this audio sitcom, such a shame it’s only 3 series, would love to find out what happens to them all in the future, or even a one off follow up episode. The cast are all amazing and play off each other so well.

Excellent 30 something BBC Radio series.

I first heard this on BBC Radio 4 extra years ago and laughed my head off. Now that I own the complete series 1-3 I can laugh at it any time I want.
It follows the highs and lows of a thirty something couple dealing with their friends problems whilst trying to stay childless themselves. DINKY, as it's affectionately known, is a funny and sensitively written series that looks at the highs and lows of Daniel (David Tennant), Lucy (Liz Carling) and the wonderful Meera Syal.

Hope they’ll come back!

After listening to this all, I feel like the characters are real friends of mine. Hope they’ll be happy in the end and come back to me someday.

Brilliantly real and witty

The genius in this show lies in how real it’s characters are and feel. We all have friends like Lucy and Dan and we all go through that stage where it seems everyone has kids and the pressure starts to pile. But the brilliant acting by Liz Carling and David Tenant bring to life the anchors of their circle and their solutions to all their friends’ problems.

The best audiobook I've listened to so far!

I'm not joking. Liz and David make their characters so three-dimensional and life-like! And the dialogue... oh the dialogue is so witty. Somewhat lacking in realism in places, but clever and highly enjoyable in a piece of ficrion.

David Tennant at his best, wife and I listened to this in the car with kids screaming in the back, very funny and good storylines.
