Summary

When the cards are stacked against you, the Kings will even the odds.

For Ward “King” Kingston the role of protector, forged by fire and tragedy, is one he takes seriously. When King is asked to safeguard the son of a four-star general and friend, he is pulled back into the world of government black ops on a mission that raises painful memories from his past. The moment King meets Leo, amid the chaos of a lockdown at a secret black site, it’s clear he’s never faced a challenge like this - one that will test his unwavering sense of control.

Leopold de Loughrey is a misunderstood genius whose anxiety and insecurities are sent into overdrive when he is forcefully recruited to work on a top-secret project. Terrified of what his role as "invaluable asset" means, Leo’s stress leads to disappearances, arguments, and blowups that threaten the project and Leo’s future. King’s arrival is a calm in the storm for Leo and his frenetic thoughts.

King and Leo couldn’t be more different, yet as they navigate the dangers of a secret multi-agency operation and face unknown threats, their differences could be what saves them. Neither man believes a happily ever after is in the cards, but their hearts might just prove them wrong...if they can survive a deadly betrayal.

Charlie and Greg blow it out of the ball park.

King helps out the General by looking out for his son Leo. Leo is a card, he is a computer nerd who makes King laugh and smile, whilst doing this favor Leo's life is in jeopardy and his heart is going to belong to King. Great story. Love this series

A fantastic end to a fantastic series!

I’ve loved this series so I started this listen with some sadness that it was coming to an end. You know how you want to eek out the last Rolo.....

We’ve met King but never got to know him previously, he’s a superb character- tough and loyal with a hidden soft side! Watching him fall in love with Leo was a joy. We all love a Protector and we see that side of him from the off.

Leo, the nerdy genius, is ideal to soften King’s rough edges. He pushed all King’s buttons and I loved the connection.

The narration is perfect, as you’d expect from Greg. He’s a great actor and absolutely nails this performance.

A great tale with thrills and tension and some great laughs along the way. A definite May to December so it hit all the highs for me. I’d absolutely recommend this listen, my favourite in the series. Can’t wait for Charlie’s next book.

My favorite in the series!!!

5 Stars!

This was King's story and damn if Charlie Cochet didn't leave the best for last, which is saying something because the whole series was outstanding! King had been a bit of a mystery until we saw him in action on the epilogue for Join the Club (book 3) and since then I've been chomping at the bit to get to know him better and I have to say I loved seeing the usually stoic man getting all out of sorts for the genius, nerdy guy. While I will admit that I was one of the fans that wanted King with his assistant Jay, I will also say that I'm glad that didn't happen. Yes, Jay is fabulous and I can't wait for his story, but Leo is amazing as well and better suited for King. King needed someone like Leo to knock through his defenses, they were so sweet and hot together and I loved that King was very protective of Leo, but Leo was no slouch in the protection department either and was resourceful as all hell when he needed to be. Plus, Leo just fit so well with the group and it was endearing to see how much they all wanted King to be happy. Of course, it didn't hurt that Leo and King had chemistry in spades and threatened to set my kindle (and me) on fire a few times. LOL

As always, it was a pleasure catching up with the rest of the guys and I'm ecstatic that this is not the last we've seen of them!

Greg Boudreaux did such a wonderful job bringing not only the Four Kings but the men they loved and the rest of the team to life. There's a lot of action and emotion in this book and he managed to translate it all into his narration. Even if I had already read the book, he made the book exciting and intriguing and as amazing as the first time around.

Highly recommendable!

King's Story

Throughout the series King has always been fairly quiet and didn't give much away, so I was eagerly anticipating this instalment. I loved getting to know the head of this crazy band of protectors.
King was everything I thought he would be, damaged but loving and caring.
Leo was a great addition to the family, he had real spark and didn't shy away from saying what he thought.
I was definitely more engaged in the romance than the actual story line, King deserved his happy ever after.
Greg is fab as usual, he performs the banter between the guys exceptionally well, especially Ace ad King.

Another brilliant novel

Charlie has done it again. The enigmatic Ward Kingston finally meets a man who he can't resist. Leo. Computer geek, brilliant mind, socially awkward, yet he gets under King's skin and into his heart. A story chocked full of laughs, heartache, tension and love. A definite five stars.

Love these books

Greg Boudreaux could read the phone book and make it enthralling. Give him a grand adventure written by Charlie Cochet and you’ve got audio heaven.
King deserves his HEA. Leo just deserves everything good that’s out there.
This book is full of action, love, laughs and a blooming good love story.
