About this listen

An explosive thriller from former MI5 officer, Tom Marcus, author of the best-selling Soldier Spy, sees the Blindeye team take down a terrifying threat to UK national security.

When no one knows you exist, you don’t have to play by the rules....

Meet former MI5 officer Matt Logan, now part of a totally deniable government organisation known as ‘Blindeye’, with full licence to do whatever it takes to neutralize threats to the UK’s national security.

When intelligence comes through that the Kremlin plans to launch a terror attack in London, Logan and the team set in motion a surveillance operation on a billionaire Russian oligarch who may be connected with the incoming threat.

As they dig into the man’s life, they soon discover a network of incredibly dangerous individuals whose plans could tear the nation apart. Battling personal demons of his own, Logan must defend his country from a terrifying enemy, or die trying....

Defend or Die is the second in Tom Marcus's breathtaking series featuring tortured MI5 operative Matt Logan, following on from Capture or Kill.

A second great chapter in the Logan ‘Blind Ey” story

Keeps you riveted. Doubtless there is more to come. Lots of great detail to colour the characters. And read very well to distinguish the characters. Thoroughly enjoyable. The author’s background helps him create authenticity. If you haven’t listened to his own autobiography it is well worth doing so.

Average

Tom Marcus became my favourite author overnight with his non-fiction books. The Sherlock Holmes level of observation operatives have combined with the logistical brilliance of MI5 was insightful and fascinating. Unfortunately these fiction books do not follow the same scripting format - Marcus’ military style ‘no-nonsense’ writing, adrenaline rush of “STEAL BADGE” car chases, surveillance technology and organisation of surveillance operations - has all been lost. I miss Marcus’ original blunt and direct writing style. Maybe the emotional format now appeals to the masses. The plot feels dated, involving brainwashing and a damsel in distress. I would highly recommend the authors non-fiction books for a eye-opening, more grounded read.

Errr...

...what went wrong this time? Too many 'dreaming' scenes, a lot of action but not much story. I wont be getting the 3rd book.

Gripping story by a real life hero!

I’ve read and now listened to all of Tom’s books, from his autobiographies, I Spy and Soldier Spy to his first work of fiction featuring Matt Logan, Capture or Kill. I’ve really enjoyed Defend or Die and can’t wait for the next one, Target and Destroy. My only complaint is the finale happens so quickly but that’s his writing style. 10/10

Slightly disappointed

Completely agree with some of the previous reviews. Started off interesting and the story evolving into high intensity.
Then boom .... strung out scenes of PTSD, and chapters of conversations with himself and then under the church ..... just seemed to lose its depth. I’ve waited in anticipation for this to be released , and to be honest was not the Tom Marcus or “Logan/ blind eye” I was expecting.
Excellent narration managed to hold the story together

Too many ghosts!

I have previously enjoyed both of Tom‘s books previously but I feel he may have lost his way a little on this one due to the amount of space that he gives the ghosts in the minds of his main character. I look forward to your next one and hope this is just an anomaly.

Good start, but gets boring

His other books have been well narrated and well written but this one seems to start well and disappears down a weird hole. Unless there is a follow on book from this that continues the story I will have to say it was an average read, a bloody long one to boot!

Dont waste your time

The first few books in the series were good and this was terrible, actually gave up when it got to the church part i couldnt continue with it anymore. Bit of a shame really considering the other books
