About this listen
DI Alec McKay is back.
Twenty years ago, Jackie Galloway was a senior cop with a bad reputation. Then he ended up on the wrong side of the wrong people, and his career was ruined. Sacked and with no pension, he ends up eking out his last days on Scotland's Black Isle, his mind lost to dementia, supported only by his wife, Bridie...until Galloway is found dead. The police assume the death to be accidental until Bridie reveals that her husband has been receiving threatening letters containing only the phrase 'not forgotten. Not forgiven.'
DI Alec McKay is struggling to come to terms with life without his estranged wife, Chrissie, and is living in isolation on the Black Isle. As a junior officer, McKay had been allocated to Galloway's team and has bad memories of the man and his methods. Now he finds himself investigating Galloway's death. But when suspicion falls on him and more police officers are murdered, the pressure is on for McKay to solve the case. Why would the killer seek revenge 20 years after Galloway left the force?
The gripping follow-up to Candles and Roses can be enjoyed as a stand-alone.

Narration makes this difficult to follow
Story is OK, characterisation in the narration not so good. It might be better to read this story.

Enjoyable read
I didn't listen to tge first book in this series due to the reviews. However, I am intrigued to try it, possibly on kindle rather than audio. Really enjoyed this book. Well written, likeable main characters. Good twists & a well written story. Will listen to the next one straight away.

Coppers ''Not forgotten. Not forgiven."!
Joined the DI Alex McKay series here in the Plus Collection as Candle & Roses, book I's reviews deemed it not really worthy of a credit; and, very little past character history is lost as Death Part Us works well as a stand alone novel & introduction to McKay, who is more plausible, less irritating than author Alex Walters' other creation DCI Kenny Murrain with his iffy ESP.
In fact, with Scotland's Black Isle as the back drop and DI McKay, a middle aged, gum chewing, rather jaded if humorous officer, prone do doing his own thing with a supportive, non-back biting team around him, he seems is a good addition to the police procedural / maverick detective genre.
When Jackie Galloway, a long retired officer with a very dubious reputation dies, it's deemed just an accident, but when two other members of his cohorts are also found dead, clearly killed & they too had received ominous anonymous notes, a murder enquiry opens up. McKay is 'officially' off the case, as the last person to see one of the victims but he keeps digging into what happened 20 years ago that's tied to Galloway

much better
After the disappointment of the first book, the performance rather than the story, this was a really well read and enjoyable tale.

Found and Listened by accident
Discovered this title while looking for something else, and so glad I did. I thought the narrator was good as was the story line. Definitely a happy find. Now going to read book 3
