Summary
Former Army brat Molly Owens is ready to put down roots, and the picturesque seaside town of Britton Bay on the Oregon Coast seems like the perfect place for it. Especially when she lands a job as editor of the local paper. But she's got one colleague who's very bad news....
As an experienced journalist, Molly is eager to bring the struggling Britton Bay Bulletin up to speed. But when she pushes Vernon, one of her less welcoming reporters, to dig a little deeper into the story of a prominent local family, the man ends up dead. The fact that he wasn't well-liked makes finding the killer extra complicated. The lists of suspects range from his ex-wife to his own son to Molly's boss, who has a secret of his own. But when Molly's attempts to sleuth out the truth result in her receiving frightening threats, the trouble is just beginning....
The one bright spot is Molly's newfound flirtation with Sam Alderich. The sexy mechanic is used to taking things apart and piecing them back together, and between the two of them, they just might be able to solve this deadly puzzle - if Molly can survive peaceful small-town life long enough....

Not just reporting on the news
I enjoyed this book. With everything moving to the internet it was an interesting career path for the main character but it lends its self to plenty of opportunities to get involved in cases and I can see this turning into a fun series. Although it's not quite up to five stars yet. The romance moved to quickly for me, would you really break into a car for somebody you just met? And the main character was to suspicious of everybody. Having said that I did like the characters, especially the cute stray dog who I think is going to steal the hearts of many a reader. The mystery did seem slow but that was because it was mixed in with a lot of setting up the characters and introducing you to them. I didn't laugh because despite the cute cover the main character isn't the normal ditzy amateur sleuth that finds herself in unusual situations. She is capable and I look forward to joining her again.
Molly needs a fresh start and when she lands a job to help a struggling newspaper she jumps at the chance. Only to find not everybody is happy to see her, namely the reporter who thought the job should have gone to him. Shaking up the newspaper is going to be hard work and Molly is up for the challenge, that is until she finds the grumpy reporter dead in his home. He wasn't well liked by the rest of the staff, the small town or even his own son but why was he killed? Molly can't help but feel it was her fault for making him do his job and write a story that he didn't want to do. Can she find out what got him killed? Especially as she could be working alongside a killer.
I liked the narrator. She uses different voices to bring the characters to life and you could always tell which one was speaking.
