Summary

The first book of Mi-Ye Lee's whimsical yet moving duology, translated from the Korean language by Sandy Joosun Lee.

THE NO.1 KOREAN BESTSELLER WITH OVER A MILLION COPIES SOLD

In a mysterious town that lies hidden in our collective subconscious, there's a quaint little store where all kinds of dreams are sold...

Day and night, visitors both human and animal from all over the world shuffle in sleepily in their pyjamas, lining up to purchase their latest adventure. Each floor in the department store sells a special kind of dream, including nostalgic dreams about your childhood, trips you've taken, and delicious food you've eaten, as well as nightmares and more mysterious dreams.

In Dallergut Dream Department Store we meet Penny an enthusiastic new-hire; Dallergut, the flamboyant owner of the department store; Agnap Coco, producer of special dreams; Vigo Myers, an employee in the mystery department as well as the cast of curious, funny and strange clientele that regularly visit the store. When one of the most coveted and expensive dreams gets stolen during Penny's first week, we follow along with her as she tries to uncover the workings of this wonderfully whimsical world.

A captivating story that will leave a lingering magical feeling in listeners' minds, this is the first in a best-selling duology for anyone exhausted from the reality of their daily life.

A very lovely story.

A lovely story. Not my usually my thing. Very easy to listen to. The only thing it failed at was, it didn't leave me wanting more. I would still recommend.

A lovely listen

Such a lovely easy listen. I listened to this to wind down for bed and the narrators voice is so soothing and lovely. Very much enjoyed listening to this book and will definitely re-listen again!

Imaginative but forgettable

The concept was imaginative and could lead to some fantastic moments but the story was minimal at best and didn't really delve into the world penny's character felt flat and I don't think the voices helped with this audio book

Hard to focus on story when narrator sounds like a platform announcer

I found the narrator very difficult to gel with; every other sentence has the same intonation, robotically, unless she is putting on an accent. I kept zoning out because of it. Loved the story itself though.

Enchanting but…

An exciting & enchantingly lovely idea that, for me, was not fully realised. There were many times that seemed on the cusp of getting there but none did. Nevertheless, there is lots to gently enjoy & to gently sweep you to another reality

very unusual premise

Despite its intriguing subject matter I felt the pace was a bit rushed - I would have liked more background on the characters to get to know, and care about them more.

Something New!

With all story ideas being made into new stories and not having found anything fresh for a very long time...this was out of this world, a totally new idea. I've always been fascinated by dreams and this was a beautiful lovely escapism story. The narrator is very good and I really enjoyed it. I can't wait for the next one.

Beautiful and whimsical

This is going to be a book I come back to again and again! such a beautifully whimsical story with amusing characters. The names of each character are so wonderfully thought out, each individual storyline is so delicately threaded together to make it all meet together and the story itself takes you into the inner world of the Dream Store, I wish I worked there!

A cozy easy listen

The perfect cozy listen, it kept me engaged without it being high stakes. I loved dipping in and out of this story and would recommend others to do the same

What was the point of it all?

I just couldn’t get into the story , the characters , the worlds and the meaning . Sorry but just not for me
