Summary

Crack House takes the listener into the dark heart of our cities' most violent and terrifying places, showing how the war on drugs can only be won by constant and forceful vigilance. The bastard offspring of cocaine, crack first entered the UK in the early 1990s. By the end of the decade, Britain's inner cities were in the midst of a crack epidemic, with users being responsible for a massive proportion of crime. Communities, especially in London, were crying out for help, but there were only two specialist units in the whole of the capital.

One of them, Haringey Drugs Squad, embarked on a war on crack, aiming to shut down all 100 crack houses in their borough in one year. Amazingly, they did it. Even more amazingly, in the subsequent 12 months all black-on-black killings in Haringey ceased, and burglaries and muggings fell massively.

In Crack House, Harry Keeble describes in heart-stopping fashion the raids and arrests, as well as the beatings, stabbings, and shootings he witnessed as leader of the Haringey Drugs Squad and their war on drugs.

Gritty, Stark dose of the capitols hidden side.

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I would pass it on to anyone unaware this type of life is happening as we talk.

What other book might you compare Crack House to, and why?

Nothing ive read is on a level with this as its not just the authors story but everyone he interacts with.

Have you listened to any of Damian Lynch’s other performances? How does this one compare?

Don't know

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

The magnitude of dishonesty and bent coppers in the Met.

Any additional comments?

Hard and gritty, it will shock you like no other policing issue in this era.

had me hooked from the start, gritty and real

Punchy and straight to the point. a stark story that everyone should read. Some chapters were uncomfortable reading, a scary reality that we should all hear.

excellent eye opening book with good narrator

Where does Crack House rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Really interesting and well written and narrated book, slightly different to what I've listened to before but is up there amongst the best

What other book might you compare Crack House to, and why?

I recently listened to a book about trump and also brexit so although different and more high octane it kept me gripped. Also I live in Haringay so very interesting hearing about places I know though to be honest never knew this stuff went on

Which scene did you most enjoy?

all good

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

Crackhouse - one near you

Any additional comments?

Don't want to get political here but reading this you do feel the Police deserve more money putting themselves in harms way for us - along with nurses etc - Our useless politicians get paid more than double what these guys do and what do they do for their money!! Politicians read this book and give these guys a living wage!!

A great insight into the authors.

A fascinating insight into the authors work. Deeply disturbing, yet in parts humorous and uplifting. Once again the gulf between leadership and front line officers is a depressing undertone to modern policing.
Well narrated and something I’d listen to at every opportunity.
