Summary

An old lover, technology knockoffs, a missing self-defense instructor, and a dead convention exhibitor. They must have something in common, but what?

When DeeDee, Jake, Al, and Cassie, from the Northwest Cozy Mystery series, meet up with Brigid and Sheriff Davis, from the Cottonwood Springs Cozy Mystery series, at a law enforcement convention in Denver, it’s almost a given there will be a mystery to solve. Or maybe two. So much for getaway vacations.

So, just what happened to Marie, a self-defense expert who specializes in instructing women on how to protect themselves? Now she’s missing. And, it would be nice to know what happened to Max, the man at the convention with the latest developments in law enforcement technology. Too bad he’s dead, but some people think he deserved it. The characters from two cozy mystery series work together to find the answers, but sometimes a dog’s senses are a little more fine-tuned when it comes to solving mysteries. Camilla the coonhound’s certainly were!

New friends, more mysteries, and a budding romance. Vacations are always interesting, but sometimes they certainly don’t go as planned! This is the 18th book in the Northwest Cozy Mystery series by a USA Today best-selling author.

No confusion just good

Review This is a fun one. I liked how the author combined two of her series to make one enjoyable and different mystery. This time the story is written slightly different to her usual style, in the fact that you are introduced to the three sets of couples and the reason for there being at the hotel before the body is discovered and the investigating starts. This story is driven by the great established characters, so there isn't a great long list of suspects with varied motives and at times you aren't even sure what the crime is but this works well and I actual enjoyed it written this way. The dogs were sadly missing, having been left at home but once again the author entertains us with another clever and well trained dog. I hope the couples team up again to solve another mystery.
With a law enforcement convention in Denver and Cassie's impending motherhood arriving quickly what better way to unwind and relax than by Jake and his business partner Al taking there wives with them. DeeDee like her private detective husband is no strange to solving mysteries herself and with Cassie taking it easy in her hotel room she decides to attend a self defence seminar, where she mets not only the instructor but also Brigid, who is there at the request of her small town sheriff. Before the ladies get the first found of drinks in to celebrate ladies night they discover there new friends room has been ransacked. It doesn't sit right for either DeeDee or Brigid when it gets written off as something trivial. Then there new friend doesn't turn up for breakfast or her scheduled lecture. Can there combined skill help them to find there new friend? And what about the commotion in another guests room? Are the police activity and the disappearance connected?
I liked the narrator. She was good at doing both male and female voices and it never got confusing with so many familiar characters.
