Summary

Kylara had to leave a bright future as a military cadet and was thrown into the brutal world of off-world trading. This subsequent career in the family business was tough: marked by war, mutiny, and attempted assassination. But then her home was attacked and her parents killed - their trading empire left in ruins. Now she must save what is left of the family and the business, with few friends and too few assets.

She must make full use of her hard-won experience to not just survive, but to restore the shattered fortunes of the Vatta family and their allies.

Now, Kylara Vatta, space-trader and sometime privateer, has destined herself for a dangerous and unpredictable future. She will muster an interplanetary taskforce and forge them into a lethal weapon: one that the pirates who destroyed her family will never forget....

Brilliant way to experience superb sci-fi.

Elizabeth Moon's excellent Sci-fi series "Vatta's War" is brilliantly brought to life in these dramatized adaptations.
I am afraid my listening to the series in the past was was somewhat stalled because the earlier audiobook version of "Command Decision" which is available has narration which destroyed any enjoyment for me. The hardcopy book has been waiting in my long queue of books to read for some time. The graphics audio series has changed all that. I usually read the book and listen to the audition in turn when it suits. With this version I was reluctant to read as that would mean missing out on the dramatized version!
The downside of course is that the book has been split into two so it is relatively very expensive to listen to each story. I guess this is understandable because such a large cast is involved and they must be expensive to produce. It is affordable with Audible credits but take out a mortgage if you want to buy the series of 10 at full price.
Having said that, "Command decision" is a real treat to listen to - and I have already invested a precious Audible credit on the first half of "Victory Conditions" in this format.
For anyone unfamiliar with "Vatta" you really need to begin at the beginning with "Engaging the enemy". The series is a cut above in terms of the quality of writing and characterisation compared to many other offerings in this "space opera" genre. The science, world building and combat sequences are believable and the main characters, especially Kylara Vatta and Rafe Dunbarger are interesting, complex and memorable.
Readers of "Honor Harrington" and similar military science fiction will enjoy Vatta's War. The books are much more than a series of space battles.
I recommend them to you, whether in book or dramatized adaptation format
