About this listen
Many Christians mistakenly believe that true Christians don't get depressed, and this misconception heaps additional pain and guilt onto Christians who are suffering from mental and emotional distress. Author David P. Murray comes to the defense of depressed Christians, asserting that Christians do get depressed! He explains why and how Christians should study depression, what depression is, and the approaches caregivers, pastors, and churches can take to help those who are suffering from it.
With clarity and wise biblical insight, Dr. Murray offers help and hope to those suffering from depression, the family members and friends who care for them, and pastors ministering to these wounded members of their flock.

An essential practical help!
Dr. Murray does a fantastic job in writing the book. He lays out theological principles, practical insights, and offers sound wisdom to those suffering and those who desire to serve those suffering with depression and anxiety. As one who struggles with them both, I have found the book enormously helpful and encouraging. He is an excellent narrator too, and reads at a good pace at 1.5 :)

Very practical. Godly wisdom.
I learnt a lot about myself. The soul and the mind and our brains are very mysterious. We are by nature desperately wicked and we cannot know ourselves without God by his Holy Spirit teaching us. I have always been afraid to read secular authors on this subject because I distrust anyone who doesn't bring knowledge to the touchstone of scripture. I was led to pick up this book by David Murray and I'm glad I did. I know of several people who suffer from depression and delusions. I had my own preconceived notions about why. This book was an eye opener. I was humbled by its teaching and I realize how close-minded I have been. I only ever looked at things spiritually but this book looks at the problem both spiritually with a Christian understanding of sin and our relationship to God. And at the same time the mechanics of the way our minds work. This is the balance that is necessary in every area of life.
