Summary

Although the majority of us don't recall our formative years, our earliest memories can stay with us for a long time and have an impact well into adulthood. Many of us are still affected by the things that we went through as children, which continue to impact our happiness, well-being, achievements, and so much more. We often wish things had been different or that someone had stepped in to help us while we were children.

Not to downplay anything that we went through as kids, but in today’s new world, children often have it ten times harder. They have access to the entire world in the palm of their hands, literally, which can both be good and bad. From cyberbullying to child abuse, eating disorders, low self-esteem and social pressure, Children Are Struggling in this New World, looks at these five challenges that children have to overcome today. The book carefully explores the causes, effects, and coping mechanisms of these problems, how they pervade adulthood, and how children can heal from the effects of these problems. Very short stories are included to provoke insight and aid in the explanation of the seriousness of these problems.

As parents, teachers, therapists, guardians, counsellors, etc. we can make a difference in our children’s lives to help them become healthy functioning adults.

A MUST LISTEN FOR ALL PARENTS WHO HAVE TEENAGERS

This book covered all the areas that my parents weren't prepared for when I went to school. I think that this book gives you a great chance to find the right way to help your children in this ever-growing world where nothing is ever as simple as you think it is. There is no place where they are truly safe and that is a scary thing to realise. I think this gives us the tools to make sure that our children stand the best chance.

You will not regret this and I'm honoured that I could share this with you all.

Accessible and relatable!

Having a daughter aged 9, and a partner employed as a child protection officer with the local authority, I looked forward to listening to Children are Struggling in this New World and found it to be interesting, enlightening, and very relevant. Admittedly, given my personal circumstances, I listened with a critical ear; nonetheless, I had high expectations of this work and can honestly say that those expectations were adeptly met. This is a thought-provoking work with some great insights. I was particularly interested in the discussion around social media/cyber bullying. In my opinion, and speaking as a father, this age of rapid technological change is both exciting and challenging and I, for one, find it difficult to keep up with the changes my daughter appears to take in her stride. However, this is a well-considered and thoughtful work providing a number of practical tips, insights, and information for parents (amongst others). The work is well structured and easy to follow. Without a doubt, the subject matter is eminently accessible and relatable, and I liked the way in which in the ‘Help’ sections offered both British and American contacts information. This Audible version of the book is delivered clearly and at a suitable and very accessible pace.
