Summary
Daphne Marriott strolls into Clover Ridge and informs librarian Carrie Singleton that she's a psychic. But if she had foreseen what fate awaited her, Daphne would have steered clear of the quaint Connecticut town. Evelyn, the library ghost, tells Carrie that there's more to Daphne than she lets on.
The mysterious woman grew up in Clover Ridge with her no-good dad, who apparently met his end at the hands of Daphne's brother, Billy. Still, Daphne proves a welcome distraction when Carrie's overbearing mother hits town. Mom's much younger husband, Tom, is in a movie that's lensing locally, and she's there to keep an eye on him: Tom's costar, sultry Ilana Reingold, is also his ex-fiancée, and there's no denying the chemistry is still there. Soon after mingling with the moviemakers at a meet-and-greet, Daphne is found dead.
Carrie and Evelyn investigate, assisted by bushy-tailed library cat Smoky Joe. But the suspect list could overflow the library shelves. Has Billy killed another relative? Is their long-missing mother involved? Is Daphne's mean ex-husband? Carrie's sure she knows who committed the crime, but can she bind together the clues before the culprit Dewey-decimates the town?

Good story
the story was good, alittle different. mot sure of the ending, and why extra people were killed. there seemed be no real need. story could be about the historical murder only.

I really enjoyed this book and loving the series!
I am really enjoying this book series, the setting for this story was very interesting with the characters and good amount of deaths. I liked the premise of the killer, but would of liked to of seen more of the aftermath. I felt for the murderer and felt with a bit more we would of felt empathy for them. The one thing I have noticed with a lot of the mystery books I've listened to, to date over 20 in six months. Once the killer is discovered the end is rushed and there is no mention of the aftermath or about what has happened to them? The other thing I find strange is there isn't really much going on with the whole haunted library bit? Is this just more of a backdrop. The title is a bit of fun, but doesn't really have any real bearing on the story. Which is a real shame as there is so much potential for growth and funny moments. Evelyn only appears every so often and doesn't really do much. I said in a previous review that Allison Brooks is a great writer but needs to expand on the law of what Evelyn can do and there should be more than one ghost. Evelyn should be able to interact with objects and people, so is Dillon and Carey are talking Evelyn could hit Dillon if he was being cheeky. I would like to see Evelyn scaring people and having fun, or better yet, like in the film Ghost, another ghost in the library that no-one knew about not even Evelyn gets bored and starts pranking the staff and customers. Then teaches Evelyn how to touch things and throw them! As always Mia Gaskins performance is wonderful and sounds like she is having fun reading the book.

Losing focus on the haunted library theme.
The main plot was coherent building to a rational ending. The narrator was good, as usual. However, too much happened outside the library, and Evelyn, the ghost, lost her role. Even Smoky Joe, hardly featured this time. There was too much inconsequential detail: is it really necessary to know about platters, glasses, cutlery etc. Why did Tom and Linda have flowers delivered when they were attending the party and could have brought them? I suspected the flowers might be poisoned, but no, no final twist. Dylan is really quite controlling; Carrie needs to watch this, I think. There was too much repetition, as usual. I do wish the author would stop all the references to various aspects of breathing - it is tiresome. Overall, a relaxing listen.
