Summary

Lacy Marie Crocker's whimsical pet couture has gained a following in New Orleans' cozy Garden District, and word of mouth has traveled all the way to her favorite fashion designer, Annie Lane. Lacy is thrilled when Annie schedules a private session at her home to discuss a companion line for her evening wear, but when Lacy arrives for the appointment, she enters the kitchen to two mewling Siamese cats - and one very dead Annie.

Lacy takes the kittens home to care for them until they can be properly claimed by Annie's family or friends, but after a busy day of work, she returns home to find them missing. And when Lacy learns the cats are set to inherit Annie's fortune, she begins to wonder if the killer was after the kittens all along. Now Lacy will stop at nothing to save the Siamese and find justice for Annie - if the killer doesn't sink his claws into her first.

Luckily, Lacy has the help of handsome NOLA PD Homicide Detective Jack Oliver to help her catch the cat-napper before it's too late in Cat Got Your Cash, the endearing second Kitty Couture mystery from Julie Chase.

Cats in New Orleans

I am enjoying this series but do wish Lacy would choose who she wants to be with, the ex boyfriend or the cop because at times it had me wondering if I was listening to a mystery or a romance. Having said that I don't know who I am routing for, both seem likeable and obviously care for her, it kind of reminds me of the love triangle in Janet Evanovich's Stephanie Plum series but set in New Orleans. There is two mysteries in this book, the first one gets solved nicely and the second mystery (of proving who killed the police detectives grandfather) is set up to either continue into the series or get solved in the next book, so be prepared. The mystery takes you on a number of twist and just when you think it is solved it continues. I had suspected the killer right from the start and then forgot about him, as things developed. What really makes this book so totally different to the other cozy mysteries is the fashion for all the pets, it just boggles the mind. Only in New Orleans but what a fun city and series.
Lacy is going to meet her hero and possibly purpose a joint fashion adventure, with Annie designing clothes and Lacy matching clothes for fashion conscious let owners. The problem is Lacy finds Annie dead and the only witness is her two Siamese cats. With no body to take them and unwilling to let animal control take them Lacy volunteers. When somebody breaks into her apartment and steals them, she wonders if they were the reason Annie was dead. Can Lacy keep the cats safe and find a killer? After a second break in and a man stalking her in a cat mask, Lacy puts down her glitter to get to the bottom of things before she becomes the next victim. At the same time her mother still wants her to come up with a prize winning costumes for her chickens to win a bet and the hunky detective turns to Lacy for help when he uncovers some startling news about his grandfather's death.
I liked the narrator. She used her voice well to give a subtle accent to a number of the characters.

really enjoyable story

this second book is just as good as the first, I look forward to listening to these books whilst pottering about the house/garden, the mystery aspect and drama that ensues are very entertaining, and the love triangle is also another bit of interest because you really don't know who she's going to end up with, I still don't know at the end of this book, which is unusual as both are likeable characters

DNF: TOO STUPID FOR ME

The blurb states that the cats are taken. It fails to state that she DELIBERATELY FAILED to arm her security alarm, despite seeing a suspicious prowler the night before!

All this after having a ‘typical dumb blonde’ moment whilst entering the deceased’s house.

I have no idea if it improved. I could not bear it any longer…!
