Summary
They came to the deserted island to compete on a popular reality television show. Each one hoped to be the last to leave. Now they're just hoping to stay alive, because the island isn't deserted after all. Contestants are disappearing, but they aren't being eliminated by the game. They're being taken by the monstrous, half-human creatures that live deep in the jungle.
The men will be slaughtered. The women will be kept alive as captives. Night is falling, the creatures are coming, and rescue is so far away....
Deadite Press is proud to present Brian Keene's tribute to the late, great Richard Laymon!
"Bloody, vile, violent and nasty. Castaways is a can't put down page turner." (House of Horrors)
"Much like Laymon, Keene provides all kinds of thrills here... But Brian Keene has his own voice, too, one just as good a the late great master, Richard Laymon." (SFRevu)

enjoyable story but narrator struggles with Welsh
Very good story and overall a good performance though narrator couldn't do a Welsh accent.

Quality Horror from Brian Keene
Castaway is a typically excellent horror novel from Brian Keene.
A group of reality TV contestants on a remote Pacific island come under attack from a tribe of subhuman beasts. It was fast-paced with great characters. Very reminiscent of the late, great Richard Laymon.
The narration by Chet Williamson was generally excellent. He has a very distinctive voice and is excellent at using different voices for each character. Unfortunately, in this audiobook, his voice for the Welsh character is a bit of a misstep. The character ends up sounding like a posh English gentleman. As someone who has lived in Wales for nearly seventeen years, it didn't really ring true for me. Williamson remains one of my favourite audiobook narrators and this slight error doesn't spoil the audiobook in any way.
Another great presentation from the brilliant folks at Crossroad Press.
Highly recommended.

Weirdly racist and incredibly sexist
Firstly has the narrator ever heard a Welsh person?
Secondly it is just misogynistic tripe where 90% of the horror is just women being raped. There’s so much weird racism, and a white supremacy subplot.
Honestly just give it a miss.
