Summary
The latest no-f**ks-given guide from New York Times best-selling author of the international sensation The Life-Changing Magic of Not Giving a F**k, Get Your Sh*t Together and You Do You.
Do you waste time overthinking things you can't do anything about?
Do you freak out when things don't go to plan?
Does anxiety get in the way of you living your best life?
When life hands you a big fat f**king lemon, Calm the F**k Down gives you practical ways to manage the situation, not to mention your anxiety about the situation. One hundred percent practical and 0 percent Pollyanna-ish, this is a book that acknowledges all the bad shit that can and probably will happen to you - from breakups and breakdowns to floods, family feuds and France running out of butter - and shows you what you can realistically do about it so you can get on with your life, stop worrying and wallowing and start bouncing back.
Think of Calm the F**k Down as the friend who, instead of reassuring you that 'everything's going to be okay', actually shows you how to make it so.

Superficial at times but it’s heart is in the right place.
The bright & breezy tone doesn’t fit with the subject matter & seems a bit forced at times but it’s generally an engaging listen.

It’s ok
Few funny moments, didn’t learn anything I already knew unfortunately. Lots of dry humour, but it’s ok

Not the best
Examples of issues and problems are superficial and petty, hard to relate to eg raining on a birthday party or a big spider in the house. Not sure this author has experienced real life stressors

Amusing anecdotes from potty-mouthed anti-guru
I had seen these NFGGs (No F**ks Given Guides) on Amazon and also in real life bookstores and this one was on the "deal of the day" on Audible (OK so I'm a cheapskate) so I thought I would give it a go. First impressions were that I was not entirely sure whether or not this was an elaborate spoof (in an Alan Partridge kind of way) of the traditional self help guides that clutter the best seller lists. To be honest, after listening to these stories of Emotional Puppies, tarantulas and flying cats, I am still not 100% sure that this is not a send up. Imagine Ruby Wax or Bette Midler doing a self help book that instructs its readers to "Calm the F**k down" and you get the picture. This book can be enjoyed on several levels. Firstly, for those actually wanting self help advice regarding how to cope with a crisis (basically only worry about things you can control and then deal with them) and secondly, for the comic element of Sarah Knight's wicked humour. I prefer the second as she is very funny and some of this would make a great stand up routine, perhaps it already is, I don't know much about her to be honest, but I will certainly seek out more of these NFGGs (and even pay full price next time). My tip for any listener is to put the speed of the playback to either 1.25x or 1.50x.
