Summary

In New Hell, only the monsters survive.

Eden Alvaro is a licensed Vulture, picking through the aftermath of violence in demon-plagued LA, and fencing her finds to help support her family. But when a crooked cop reports her for a salvage she didn’t take, all hell breaks loose.

Stripped of her license, Eden finds herself with a price on her head. When the mercenaries hunting her raid her home, brutalize her family, and abduct one of her sisters, Eden turns to the enigmatic Bishop - a man with a reputation for violence who, for the right price, can find just about anything or anyone.

With time running out to find her sister before she’s sold into slavery, Eden is determined to get her back - even if she has to slaughter her way through a gang affiliated with the traffickers and face down one of the powerful demons in control of the city.

She’ll need every bit of her burgeoning magical powers to bring her sister back alive - and she’ll need to put herself in debt to Bishop. But when it comes to her family, no price is too high for Eden to pay.

Different to the Imp series but very enjoyable

This is set in Imp World shortly after the events in "With This Ring" in the Demon controlled area of North America but bears little similarity to the Imp world (Sam) and Half Breed (Amber) books.

This can be read stand alone though you probably wouldn't quite understand how the world was as it is and why Demons control it - also background for little things like what a Durft is but there is nothing critical.

Much darker story though involving kidnap and child abuse and our human heroine (Eden) getting into all sorts of trouble mostly with gangs and vigilantes and only hints of demonic or angelic involvement. I liked Eden, not as witty or carefree as Sam or Amber but committed to doing the right thing and after a bit of a slow start I got into the book very well,
I found it quite a page turner and will definitely be listening to the next book shortly
Definitely Urban Fiction rather than the fantasy of the impworld books and all set very much in Los Angeles not Hel or Aru

Special mention to the Narrator Aida Reluzco who I thought was superb. First book I have heard her narrate and she is definitely an improvement on Angela Rysk

Great Narrator!

The story tightly focuses on very serious and difficult subject matter and in that respect it is not a 'light' read/listen. The narrator Aida Reluzco is very skilled, talented and gives a tremendous performance with a lot of emotion. Living in the UK, I very much enjoy the opportunity to hear different accents and Aida's accent and style of speaking is different to American narrator's accents that I have grown familiar with. The narrator outshines the book. I'll spend a credit on getting the second book.
