Another case for Roxy - A New Orleans Cosy

I am a huge fan of Alison Golden's books, and in my opinion the Roxy Reinhardt cosy mysteries series is some of her best work. This is the fourth book in the series and although it could be red/listened to as a standalone it works much better if the previous books have been read/listened to, as this gives more background and deeper descriptions of the characters.
This book is loosely based around a TV baking competition where one of Roxy's 'New Orleans family' is auditioning to be a judge, but turns nasty when his rival is killed.
As usual with this author there are lots of great characters, some central ones and several created for this story, but they are all really well described. The plot has lots of red herrings and twists before the real culprit(s) are revealed. There is also the frisson of romance between Roxy and Sam to give a bit of seasoning to the story.
This series just gets better and better whether read or listened to, but the narration by Marissa Pistone is excellent and really captures the essence of the book and the characters.

loved it

I loved listening to Roxys latest adventure. I always feel like I am right there with Roxy & the gang. The narrator is wonderful at setting the background as well as the characters. I would recommend Roxy to any one who wants a trip to New Orleans from the comfort of there own home and mysteries , laughter & drama.

It's a catastrophe not to get this book

This book is just as colourful and entertaining as the city it is set in and I loved every minute. Roxy might have started the series as a timid little mouse but she has certainly come out of her shell, making this a delightful adventure. There was a lot going on in the book with friendships, cooking shows, building construction, mob guy's and police raids but it was all woven together to keep the story flowing nicely and easy to follow along with. So much so that it keeps you hooked until the very end. I love the characters in this series (especially the accents the narrator gives them) and they are so easy to picture that they feel like you are spending time with old family friends and experiencing there ups and down alongside them. I can't wait for the next book.
Elijah's has been keeping a big secret from his friends, he is one of only two in the running to become a judge on a cooking show. When the other candidate is mugged and killed by a homeless person, all Elijah's dreams come true and he can now go ahead with expanding his bakery. That is until the building inspector is also found dead. The police are quick to write both deaths off but it isn't sitting right with Roxy. Are the two deaths connected? And if so what does it have to do with her friend? Elijah isn't the only one of her friends to be keeping secrets. Roxy doesn't make friends easily and the ones she thought she had made felt like family but is Roxy's safe haven crumbling around her? She might not be able to help the others but she can Elijah, even if he doesn't want her help and that is by finding the killer herself.
It is often the narrator that makes or breaks a story and having listened to a lot of audio books I can safely say there isn't anybody quite like this narrator to transport you to a different place. With the different accent and nuances she uses you feel like you are in New Orleans.
I was given this free review copy audio book at my request and have voluntarily left this review.
