About this listen

The tyrannical rule of the Deacon and his Jerusalem Riders has unleashed upon the world a sea of bigotry and hatred, where Unbelievers and Mutants are massacred in the name of God and Peace. And the long-vanished Jerusalem Man is now considered a saint of the new order.

To speak ill of his memory is heresy. But when the church in Pilgrim's Valley is burnt to the ground and its congregation is slaughtered, a rider appears and hunts down the killers. And word spreads - the Jerusalem Man is back!

Hunted and alone, Jon Shannow must battle the forces of the Deacon - and face a terrible enemy from another universe, a dark god who feeds on the souls of worlds.

a brilliant ending to the trilogy... I do recommend this whole trilogy, no one can write like Gemmell

I love David Gemmell,

rubbished by narrators crappy accents. scousers, cockneys, Irish, Welsh, Brummies, African/Jamaicans? to name a but a few. All unbelievably terrible.

How many crappy accents can a narrator do?

I love David Gemmell books. I have them all in hardcopy, but love to listen on journeys too.

To avoid spoilers, I will not say anything specific about the story... It does not take away from the main thrust of the story, but I feel the epilogue to this installment (which is missing from this recording) gives a nice coda to the Jon Shannow series.

I agree with some of the other commentators regarding all the accents, in some instances they feel a bit stereotypical and made me wince. In my mind (despite me being British) I have always imagined the majority of the characters as having Midwestwrn American accents... although there is nothing in the books to indicate one way or another.

Love the book but the Epilogue is missing

Excellent series of books only shame is they came to an end. Well read, strong character voices. Gemmel does it again!!

Simply Brilliant

Great story but I found the accents the narrator took for the characters to be at best odd at worst offensive. I don’t understand why people from the same area and sometimes same family would have wildly different accents. The worst though were the people of colour where they become particularly offensive. The ethnically black characters sound like they are something from a mix between a caricature of an African and minstrel accent. The ethnically Asian character also has one from what would be a mockery accent from the 1960’s. It made no sense within the plot either as these characters were from the most advanced society in the book and you would assume they therefore spoke similar to each other.

Troubling Narration

Great story being classic Gemmell, but a strange choice of accents from the reader, including Northern Irish, scouse, american western, and north east. I found it a bit off putting.

Great story weird accents.

As someone has already said the different accents are shocking and spoil the story which is interesting

Poor Narrator

The ‘hero’ is in too many places at once
Needs significant concentration to avoid loosing track
Unnecessarily complicated towards the end

Complicated story
