The people of Perizzi have survived the battlemage war, but their future is looking darker than ever....
Byrne is a member of the Watch, investigating a series of murders in which the corpse was drained entirely of life.
Fray's expertise with magic is needed to catch the killer, but working with the Watch destroyed his father years before.
Choss is a champion fighter trying to diffuse a war in the underworld that threatens to turn the streets red with rivers of blood.
Katja is a spy from a foreign land attempting to prevent a massacre that will topple two dynasties and destroy the fragile peace in the city forever.
Watchmen and spies, assassins and criminals will clash on the streets in this magic-fuelled adventure from the author of Battlemage.

Meh
I re-read my summary from the first book and was unsure what I meant. The story is good but the narrator has no storytelling skills. I wasn’t clear previously so I will this time, don’t buy this and expect anything other than a flat reading with clear pronunciation. The story is good inter twining threads being resolved efficiently and a prelude of the next story. So will I listen to the next one? I noted it is the same narrator so maybe I need to leave it for a while to forget a little how much it affects my enjoyment.

A Great Fantasy read from the Author of Battlemage
What did you like most about Bloodmage?
The character development is first class with a nod to characters from the previous book. It was hard to stop listening.
What about Matt Addis’s performance did you like?
Matt Addis is the reason I chose to buy this book in Audible format rather then paperback. His voice carries you away to this world and differentiation of character voices make it easy to recognise what each character sounds like. Well done.
Any additional comments?
Stephen Aryan's work reminds me so much of David Eddings books of the Belgariad. I am so eager for the next book now that I may just have to start over again.

Even better than the first one
Really enjoyed listening to this book. Great narration and amazing story. I hope the third one is even better than the previous two. I would definitely recommend it!

Good story but not great part of trilogy
The story as a standalone is good but as part of a wider series I find this to be lacking without enough link to battlemage.
I would however recommend still going for it as chaos Mage the 3rd book is exceptional and in my opinion the true sequel to battlemage.

An engaging listen
I really enjoyed the espionage storylines and the investigation into the series of murders. Great fun and a very different feel to the previous book.

As good as the first!
Nothing more to add from the first book... as well written and narrated! Moving swiftly on to the 3rd! :)

From war to intrigue
The previous book was about the war but this was just the start. This book focuses on some of the aftermath and the continuing fight again evil magic. Crime families, guardians, royalty and magic are a great combination.

Great sequel.
I read some unfavourable reviews of this book but I actually enjoyed it more than the first. the first reminded me of David Gemmels Druss but this was more akin to Gentleman Bastards by Scott Lynch. I got a real feel for the city and its denizens and the characters were just as string as the first if not stronger.
