Summary
The United States of America is in crisis. Radical militiamen are targeting hydroelectric dams and nuclear power plants, devastating the power grid. The economy, already weakened by government mismanagement, is in free fall. Food and gas shortages rock the nation. And in Washington, the US Senate is devastated by a terrorist attack.
Childhood friends Jackson Pike and Cliff “Redstone” Stone worry for the future of their country, but their life in rural Alabama hasn’t changed much. Thanks to the Pike family’s disaster preparedness, the town of Dodge is well-equipped to ride out the madness. Their main concern is for Jackson’s cousin Hollis, a page for the senator from Alabama. Hollis was present for the Senate attack and hasn’t been heard from since.
When the National Guard first pulls into Dodge, the townsfolk assume the worst of the crisis is over. They’re wrong. Under the iron command of Abraham Samuel Sherman, the National Guard begins stripping citizens of their rights, all while aggressively searching for something - or someone. Jackson and Redstone aren’t sure what motivates Sherman, but they’re determined to oppose him, his superiors, and anyone else who challenges the constitutional rule of the land and people they love.

Excellent!!!
I thoroughly enjoyed Javan Bonds "Still Alive" series. I really enjoy post-apocalyptic literature and I enjoy reading about (or listen to) the different ways that authors have for bringing the world and/or the US to its knees.
I was lucky enough to acquire an advanced copy of this book and I was not disappointed! The book starts with an attack on the US Senate by some very nasty people and from there it is a very quick descent into the loss of liberties and chaos. There is great attention to detail and really enjoyed Redstones witty comments and the fact that the prepper's book list included a dictionary.
Salzman does a great job with the voices which really makes the story come alive.
I found the book and enjoyable read and enjoyed the humour. Highly recommended!!!!

Get Out of Dodge...!
The tale unfolds in a wonderful and humorous portrayal of life in Alabama and so many memorable characters. The plot is engaging and entertaining while thought provoking, and entirely too believable. The government's aim is to strip the population of its civil rights and remove the possibility of Rebellion by removing their right to bear arms. Thankfully Jeff Like is prepared and ready to protect his family, aided by Sage Ben, and the Pike family. Childhood friends Jackson and Redstone are ready for anything and prepared to meet danger head-on with a can-do attitude, with bravery and snark. I was immediately absorbed from the first chapter and fell in love with the characters. S. Salesman's narration was superb and helped convey the suspense and intrigue of the book, along with the humour and personalities of the characters. I can't recommend highly enough, five stars across the board! I can't wait for the next book, it can't arrive soon enough!

Need more
Javan has nailed it again. I’m a big fan of his “Still alive” series and this is just as awesome. This book finished far too soon for me and I just know we haven’t even scratched the surface. I can’t wait to get more of this so please hurry up and release more in the series. Five stars and two thumbs brilliant.

Brilliant First Book In New Series By Javan Bonds
I really enjoyed Javan Bond's first book in his new "Free State of Dodge Saga" series, I had listened to all of his superb and very enjoyable "Still Alive" series and this is quite different and I must say even more enjoyable. This book is darker, a lot more serious and it has a wonderful and exciting plot. I found the characters interesting and I enjoyed getting to know them, the main rogue is a real badass!
The narration was up to S.W. Salzman's usual great standard, he has a really good range of voices.
I am looking forward to the next in the series and I recommend this to anyone who enjoys post apocalyptic and prepping adventure books.
