Summary

Kate Worthington knows her heart and she knows she will never to marry. Her plan is to travel to India instead - if only to find peace for her restless spirit and to escape the family she abhors. But Kate’s meddlesome mother has other plans. She makes a bargain with Kate: India, yes, but only after Kate has secured - and rejected - three marriage proposals.

Kate journeys to the stately manor of Blackmoore determined to fulfill her end of the bargain sooner rather than later and enlists the help of her dearest childhood friend, Henry Delafield. But when it comes to matters of love, bargains are meaningless and plans are changeable. There on the wild lands of Blackmoore, Kate must face the truth that has kept her heart captive. Will the proposal she is determined to reject actually be the one thing that will set her heart free?

Set in Northern England in 1820, Blackmoore is a regency romance that tells the story of a young woman struggling to learn how to follow her heart.

Different to Edenbrooke but also excellent

Thank heavens for the ending, I would have loved one more chapter.
This story dares to be brilliant and it is. But, had it not had the ending it has, I would have died! It NEEDED that ending as do all this author’s books!
As a Mum I wish Edenbrooke and Blackmoore were on all reading lists for teenagers of BOTH sexes! These are adult books of course but it is tragic how the internet and the cheapening of relationships via violence and gratuitous sex and internet cruelties has robbed young people of what should be their birthright, the right to treasure awakening love wholly and fully, to see how friendship, love and sex fully enhance the other into something the internet mostly kills. Also, the unexpected kindnesses in both books, as well as adults in Blackmoore who should know better but perhaps are as trapped as the heroine in their own way and are deeply disappointed by their own lives without fully realising it, which is why our heroine in this story made very brave and right decisions. Once I was trapped and isolated too, but I never found a way out. Many young people might gain strengths they need for their own lives, by reading Blackmoore.

Thank you Julianne for two brilliant books.

Drags along in a never ending circle

Would you try another book written by Julianne Donaldson or narrated by Cassandra Campbell?

This was my second book, but I do not think I might give her the benefit of the doubt any time soon.

Has Blackmoore put you off other books in this genre?

No, it is one of my favourite genres and not every book can be good.

Did the narration match the pace of the story?

Yes, very even and level, matching the story in which nothing much happened.

What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?

Mainly disbelief at the stupidity of the characters and only surpassed by my own stupidity of listening to the whole.

Any additional comments?

The main character and probably the author are suffering from a major depression. Not exactly with I expect in a true romance.
