About this listen

From the international best-selling author of the DCI Ryan mysteries.

In a world gone mad, who can you trust?

Fresh from a high-profile case in the Paris fashion world, elite forensic psychologist and criminal profiler Dr Alexander Gregory receives a call from the New York State Homicide Squad. The wife of a notorious criminal has been admitted to a private psychiatric hospital and can no longer testify in his upcoming trial. Without her, their case will collapse, but amid reports that the staff are as unpredictable as their patients, who can the police trust?

In desperation, they turn to an outsider, and now Gregory must find the courage to step inside the fortified walls of Buchanan Hospital to uncover the truth. The question is, will he ever be the same again?

Murder and mystery are peppered with dark humour in this fast-paced thriller set amidst the spectacular Catskill Forest.

Excellent book

Yet another great story from the fabulous L J Ross. Wonderful narration by Richard Armitage. I would highly recommend this book.

Where is Hugh Dancy?!.

I love the L J Ross books and have enjoyed immensely the Ryan books read perfectly by Jonathan Keeble. All his characters are individuals I also thoroughly enjoyed the first two Alexander Gregory books read by Hugh Dancy (although I thought the story in the first book was better than the second) but here, in the third book, we have Richard Armitage reading instead of Hugh Dancy. WHY?

Sadly I could have been listening to one of the Joy Ellis Jackman and Ellis books, as to me, all his characterisations sound just the same. I am so sorry to say that as I think he is a fantastic actor but if there is a fourth book in the Gregory series, read by Richard Armitage, i will not be buying it. I already had the Bedlam book and had pre-ordered the audiobook which I cancelled when i saw the narrator had changed. In the end I relented and gave it a go but sadly, it's not for me. He just isn't Alexander....

Please bring back Hugh!!!

Far-fetched Fun

This is a lot of fun and blissfully escapist. I heartily recommend it if you need distracting and you like this sort of thing.

Brilliant book by first class author

Narration was brilliant by Richard Armitage a different take for Dr Gregory, page turner, I was second guessing the scenarios all the way through

Another engaging listen in this series

If I have a criticism of this book, it’s that it’s too short! I found the storyline kept me engaged and guessing (mostly wrong) about who the culprits were in the tale!

Love LJ Ross

The combination of a Lj Ross book and Richard Armitage narration, never fails to entertain me. Would highly recommend.

Edge of my seat!

In a way, it's a shame that there's a different narrator as I enjoyed Jonathan Keeble's representation of Dr. Gregory, but Richard Armitage is absolutely brilliant.

The story is well paced and cryptic, and Dr. Gregory's background and behaviour is explored in such an empathetic manner that it is impossible not to be invested.

Probably one of her best yet.

Absolutely superb writing.

I always listen to audio books while driving, but this book was so enthralling for the first time ever I had to lock myself away when I reached home to finish the book.
