Summary

An imperfect hero for an imperfect time. For generations, Riker men have been the best of the best. For the Battleborn that comes with a cost.

I spit out the blood in my mouth. I had to give the other guy credit. That was a fine right hook. Every bit as good as my mom used to give me. Of course, the best right hooks were the ones I landed on the other guy rather than the ones the other guy landed on me. My dear departed mother had always taught me it was better to give than receive. It’s unlikely that her cherished advice was meant to apply to bar fights but then she wasn’t a big fan of bars or fights in general. My name is Tad Riker. I serve as a tactical weapons officer for the Wolves. I'm Battleborn.

Great follow on story

This book follows the other part of the humans who fled the Earth. The prologue explains how the situation gets started but the main story is far into the future from the initial flight. The book and writing can be humorous and funny and sometimes silly. The cliches are dated, but the fact that I understood them must mean that I am old also. The narrator does and outstanding job of making the book come alive. They seem to be able to express upset as well as joy well.

I am looking forward to more books in this series as it develops.
