Summary

My name is Hope and I'd like to introduce you to our world. Earth is full of two races, the Avoidables and the Perfects. I'm an Avoidable because I only have one arm. I was born that way, apparently. Because of my defect, my mother had to move to the Lower Side. The Perfects are humans that have no physical flaws. They live in luxury, while we live in filth.

Avoidables have defects ranging from looks to unexplained gifts. Some of us are half breeds. Dragons and animals were known to have bred with the human race thousands of years ago. We all live in cities, usually divided in two. The Perfects live on the Upper Side, while the Avoidables inhabit the Lower Side. We've been consumed by hate for a race that rejects us so heartlessly. We've become dangerous.

I like to sneak over to their side sometimes. It's fun to watch how they live. To watch their perfect gorgeous faces react to the one-armed freak. Until I met Jason, anyway. He ignored the fact that I had one arm, even daring to touch my shoulder stub. What happened when he did blew my mind. I was no longer an ugly Avoidable. I was much, much better than any Perfect.

Gripping supernatural Love story

Would you listen to Avoidables: Serial 1: Episode 1 again? Why?

I would listen again as i found this story to be very exciting and entertaining.

Who was your favorite character and why?

My favourite character was purple. I really like how he kept popping up and using his special powers and he always wanted to protect hope and do the best for her.

Have you listened to any of Anna Ferguson’s other performances? How does this one compare?

This is the first reading by Anna Ferguson that i have listened to. She delivers a tremendous performance and she really brings to life this exciting story. Her diction is superb and every word is enunciated beautifully. She utilises different voice for each of the charcters and gives each character a distinct feel which helps the listener to empathise and identify with the character. Her expression is also excellent and her performance adds to many of the exciting events and situations which take place in this story. She is particularly good at adding tension to the darker moment of the story and this will leave you on the edge of you seat during some of the bits which are quite scary.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I twould have to be the initial moment when hope first realised that Jason was not disgusted by her disfigurement and actually admired her and found her to be beautiful.
