About this listen

As the Crow Flies is an epic rags to riches tale from Jeffrey Archer, author of the bestselling The Clifton Chronicles.

If your dream is big enough, not even your enemies can stop you . . .

Charlie Trumper's earliest memory is of hearing his grandfather's sales patter from behind his costermonger's barrow. When Grandpa Charlie dies, young Charlie wants nothing more than to follow in his footsteps – his burning ambition is to own a shop that will sell everything: 'The Biggest Barrow in the World'.

Charlie's progress from the teeming streets of Whitechapel to the elegance of Chelsea Terrace is only a few miles as the crow flies. But in Jeffrey Archer's expert hands it becomes an epic journey through the triumphs and disasters of the century, as Charlie follows a thread of love, ambition and revenge to fulfil the dream his grandfather inspired.

Superb!

The master story teller does not disappoint, yet another story that takes twists and turns and manages to take the reader on a believable journey. There are highs and lows that play on the readers emotions laughter, exhilaration and sorrow in various proportions that will keep you on the edge of your seat. Highly recommended for those that enjoy a great story. Narrated by John Lee whose range of accents and delivery make this an epic production.

20th Century Family Saga

Excellent narration, full marks to Mr John, Lee he truly brought all the characters to life.

This story is very well written in Mr Archer's style. I would liken it quite closely to The Clifton Chronicles and follows each character's storyline (swapping stories for defined periods) adding extra pieces of information.

In addition the same storyline of an 'evil & embittered' woman desperately trying to seek revenge on the 'good guy' main character.

Mr Archer has an ability to write effortlessly about the period from early 1900's and his characters are always well rounded with very clear good vs bad attributes.

Easy to listen to although having followed the Clifton Chronicles fairly recently I did wish maybe I'd deferred listening to this for another year or so.

Great no nonsense, old fashioned proper story.

I just loved this book and the narration was fabulous. Every character rich and interesting, I wanted it to go in for ever but the ending was perfect.

Brilliant yarn

Great story albeit a little old fashioned. Kept me riveted from beginning to end. Narration was a bit hit and miss with varying accents etc but it didn’t spoil it

Mediocre Story, Brilliant Narration

Kudos to John Lee for a brilliant narration. What is a rather mediocre story becomes pure entertainment. It:s one 9f Jeffrey Archer's less interesting sagas butJohn Lee lifts it out of the rut with myriad accents and voices. A really enjoyable read.

Gripping from start to finish

What an entertaining plot! This book encompasses every human emotion from tragedy to humour as the plot weaves and twists in every unexpected direction. But it is over twenty hours and you will not want to put it down, so best enjoyed while undertaking some mindless task, unless you are happy to devote so many hours to being unproductive!
