About this listen

War will always find a man like you.

This ALIEN story begins where most end: with a xenomorph loose on a damaged spaceship hurtling through space. Once a highly decorated marine, Chris Temple, a recently widowed single father to two young daughters, Jane, 11, and Emma, 8, is onboard. Despite his particular set of skills, Chris doesn’t get involved in the fight with the alien, instead focusing on keeping his children safe as the ship comes in for a crash landing.

The family land safely on an idyllic outpost planet, where Chris is told that the ship has been destroyed beyond recognition and nothing could have survived the crash. That’s only the first lie. Chris and his daughters love their new life, but something doesn’t feel right. Chris is a paranoid type, but just because he’s paranoid, doesn’t mean he’s wrong.

There are nasty surprises in store as Chris investigates the web of lies and conspiracies. After leaving a ruined Earth, it seems Chris and his daughters have crash-landed on a planet on the verge of all-out civil war. Chris will have to call on the battle skills he never wanted to use again in order to protect his daughters, deal with violence-hungry marines, and battle the xenomorph that’s killing people regardless of which side of the civil war they’re on.

One of the better Alien novels

More a story with some aliens in it than a story about aliens, but that does not detract from this very enjoyable story. I have found the need to adhere to a female lead has made many Alien spin offs rather predictable and I was pleased that this did follow suit. With good character development and not to overly complex but still interesting sub-plots, this has kept me happy glued to my earbuds. A strong contender in the many Alien canon.

Headless chicken Marines

The story is … tedious and forgettable I’m afraid.
What really makes it bad is the fact that the ultimate badass marines rush into a situation and ultimately die like flies (sigh, facepalm) .

Spoiler alert: where are Xenos ?!?!

Full of promise

Lots of intricate detail and so much potential but very little alien action. Just more a story of humans in space.

really liked this addition to the franchise. the novel stand on its own perfectly fine. fits in perfectly well with the rest of the alien universe. we'll worth a listen.

Eminently enjoyable but forgettable

And I don’t mean that as a slight on the authors work
It’s reminiscent of a Wild West tale but with very small xenomorph content
Enjoyed it and the narration but soon forgotten

Civil war is a great story but the xenomorphs were an add on

I really like the characters and the setting. This could of been just as good if it was about a Weyland Yutani colony who had rebelled. The Xenomorphs just felt like an add on and got in the way of the civil war about to erupt.

Good, not great

While not a bad story it certainly doesn't offer anything spectacular for the Die hard Alien fan, events are slow and the main charecter becomes boring quickly.
Very little to do with actual Xenomorph story telling and a lot to do with politics

Lack lustre but enjoyable

So if you are after a usual alien book that has a lot of alien action etc this book isn’t for you.
Civil war sits alongside echo and Vasquez on that account. But all in all a good story, and enjoyable for those true aliens fans.

Interesting Concept on Alien

A solid setting and story, with good characters and set pieces. minor pitfalls with repetition however.
