About this listen

This is a story from the Tales from the Arabian Nights collection.

Toby Stephens takes us back to the world of cunning, adventure, mishap, and fun. Sheherezade, night after night, weaves her tales, and Aladdin and his Magic Lamp, Sinbad the Sailor, Ali Baba and the Forty Thieves, and other tales come alive. The unforgettable music of Rimsky-Korsakov sets the scene perfectly. A delightful treat for young listeners.

Editor reviews

Ali Baba discovers the secret words that allow him access to a hoard of treasure belonging to a band of robbers. He uses this knowledge to become wealthy, but the robbers are intent on revenge and mean to find and kill him. Only Aladdin's loyal servant, Morgiana, is able to save the day with her quick thinking and bravery. Narrator Toby Stephens builds up a sense of anticipation as events unfold, and his excellent timing makes this retelling of a much-loved story fresh and exciting.
