Summary
The new historical crime thriller, a Sunday Times bestseller, perfect for fans of C. J. Sansom and Hilary Mantel
Prague, 1588.
A COURT IN TURMOIL
The court of the Holy Roman Emperor, Rudolf II, is a haven for scientists, astrologers and alchemists. The dream – to discover the philosopher’s stone and attain immortality. But now there are rumours of heresy.
A MURDERED ALCHEMIST
Giordano Bruno is sent to Prague as a spy for Elizabeth I. He arrives to find the palace in uproar – an alchemist has been murdered.
AN UNFORGIVING ENEMY
Ordered by the emperor to uncover the killer, Bruno must negotiate the jostling factions at court, as well as the religious tensions brewing in the city. And his hunt to track down a murderer soon proves as elusive as the elixir of life itself…
‘The clever twists and turns of Alchemy are assuredly plotted and Prague, a city in religious and political turmoil, makes for a powerful setting’ The Times
‘Over the past dozen years, S. J. Parris’s novels… have been among the most enjoyable of all historical thrillers’ Sunday Times
‘Breathless pace and acutely observed detail make for a story that confounds and surprises’ Observer

Intriguing tale, well worth a listen.
This is another great story from a truly talented writer. Daniel Philpott’s narration brings the work to light. Highly recommended.

Intriguing and Enjoyable Tudor detective story
Tudor detective Giordano Bruno finds himself literally in the Lion's den in his latest adventure in 16th century Prague. The narration of Daniel Philpott brilliantly invokes the characters in this latest intricate story created by S J Parris who must be regarded as masterly a storyteller as that other excellent Tudor mystery writer the late great C J Sansom. This audiobook is not to be missed!

Another good intrigue
Another interesting adventure for Bruno and his student Besler, in the court of the Holy Roman Emperor in Prague. The narration was great as usual, with lots of interesting characters, well defined. Really enjoyable entertainment.

Alchemy
Ok, story but a lot of characters to take in. Didn’t feel totally absorbed by the story.

Entertaining
A good story, told by a pleasant voice. However, the lack if difference between between the accents made it confusing at times.

The best yet
Giordano has moved to Prague. This was an interesting setting for a story of intrigue between Jews, catholics and alchemists. Excellent performance.
I got help with the geography of Prague by downloading a sample of Alchemy on kindle. I hoped it would include a character list.
