Summary

A visit to the local village fete for a spot of fun and relaxation turns into a nightmare for Agatha Raisin when she discovers the body of the local landowner in the woods - with an arrow in his chest and his trousers round his ankles.

At first her old adversary, Detective Chief Inspector Wilkes, declares the death a tragic accident, believing the victim has been hit by a stray arrow from an archery demonstration. Agatha is convinced the man was murdered and is shocked when Wilkes eventually agrees...particularly as he considers her to be his prime suspect!

Determined to clear her name and find the real killer, Agatha launches her own investigation, quickly becoming involved with a family at war, an unscrupulous gangster -- and a murderer who is determined to make her the next victim...

Bullseye

These books are my absolute go-to re-reads (listen to) of all the serialisations I have. They are so easy on the ear thanks to Penelope Keith, and the plots are secondary to the lives of the Cotswold inhabitants. I even suspend doubt on how old Agatha is still claiming to be after 34 books...

M C Beaton made this style of plot her own evidenced by how well the talented R W Green has interpreted and delivered another winner

It is just a shame we have to wait for the next one!

Another tricky mystery

I have enjoyed all the Agatha Raisin books by M C Beaton and can't tell the difference between those and the new author. Another tricky mystery to be solved by the detective and her friends.

Agatha the man magnet strikes again

Finally coming to the end of this brilliant series, the last one is on pre order, due out in a couple of weeks, and I don’t know how I’m going to manage without Agatha and her exploits. The author, now sadly deceased, has never let standards slip, has always given us a jolly good tale, and is going out strong. I’ve read the books, seen the tv series and listened to the audiobooks without being bored in any way.

Didn’t disappoint

As the author has now passed away I was hoping that this latest book would not reflect the end of Agatha Raisen and there maybe a few more adventures stored up.
The story was excellent as ever and I love Penelope Keith reading them it wouldn’t be the same by anyone else. I have read all MC Beaton’s books and I most enjoy listening to the dramatized versions which the BBC did I would listen all again in they could do more of these.
I have read the books and listen to them all many times. Such a great detective and great characters you get so immersed in their lives. Highly recommended to anyone who loves Agatha Christie and Dorothy L Sayers
