Summary
Russell Conwell was an American Baptist minister, philanthropist, and founder and first president of the Temple University in Philadelphia. Conwell is remembered above all for his gifts in oratory and his lectures which are often said to be life-changing. Chief amongst these groundbreaking lectures is "Acres of Diamonds", a lecture Conwell gave around the world a total of roughly 6,150 times before his death in 1925. "Acres of Diamonds" teaches us that all the means for success and fulfilment are within us or close at hand, it teaches us how unwise it is to hold the belief that the "grass is greener on the other side", and these lessons are delivered in the form of a simple parable about an African farmer who spurns his humble farm and family to find great wealth in the diamond business, only to lose it all. We as students of the lectures discover where the real acres of diamonds where all along, and it is in this revelation that Conwell proves himself to be both a masterful teacher and orator.
