About this listen

From the twelve-million copy bestselling author of the Lewis trilogy comes a chilling new mystery set in the isolated Scottish Highlands.

A tomb of ice

A young meteorologist checking a mountain top weather station in Kinlochleven discovers the body of a missing man entombed in ice.

A dying detective

Cameron Brodie, a Glasgow detective, sets out on a hazardous journey to the isolated and ice-bound village. He has his own reasons for wanting to investigate a murder case so far from his beat.

An agonizing reckoning

Brodie must face up to the ghosts of his past and to a killer determined to bury forever the chilling secret that his investigation threatens to expose.

Set against a backdrop of a frighteningly plausible near-future, A Winter Grave is Peter May at his best.

Narration

A great story diminished by setting it in the future, present day would be far better, ignoring how things will hypothetically be

Dark, frightening but another gripping story.

Frightening, dark, dystopian and at first I thought ‘do I want to read this’? I read it in 2 days gripped by Peter May’s page turning story set in a future ravaged by climate change. I never give away a story so if you love Peter May’s books (& also concerned on climate change) you should read this. Once you start you won’t stop. It may haunt you somewhat but maybe it should. The author is more than just a master story teller (aided by the perfect narrator) but a person full of awareness of the world he lives in. Also having walked through and stayed in the location there’s a strong feeling the ‘sense of place’ the author has. I shall certainly recommend it especially to Scottish friends.

Always brilliantly written

Set in the future with the climate wrecked, Brody sets out to uncover the truth of a death and to confront his own truth with his daughter. A feast of a book

Excellent story and narration

The story is beautifully told, slightly in the future. Very believable. I was completely hooked on this perfectly narrated story . I highly recommend it.

Painted bit of a horrific picture at start

Starts off by telling how most of the world is disappearing due to our mishandling of climate change, Florida has disappeared etc.
Not sure exactly what that added to story line, which I might add was riveting as a stand alone plot.
Didn’t see the need for it to be set in 2051, but what do I know. Still thoroughly enjoyed the book.👍😁

A good story

A good story, very well narrated. Exciting and atmospheric. It was so interesting to read a book set around Inverness. Good characterisations also.
